Otton is basically Jason Witten in college. Elite blocker with charmin soft hands. I get a boner just thinking about it.

Forgot about that. He did well that game.whatshouldicareabout said:
Kamari has always been a reliable blocker. Recall a few years ago when we played Colorado and Kamari was used exclusively to pick up CU's blitzes and lead for Gaskin.dnc said:
Kamari's block was incredible in real time. Free blitzer up the middle and Kamari obliterated him. That play never happens without him.DoogCourics said:
I don't see McGrew or Davis making those types of blocks (at least not yet for Davis). -
Some tasty Caple nuggets all up in the WAM!
A taste of the supply:
• Check out the pass protection on this 14-yard completion to Nacua on third-and-10. The Utes bring six pass rushers, but the offensive line and Pleasant, in particular, pick it up perfectly and maintain a clean pocket for Morris, who fires on target to Nacua for the big first down.
• Needing 3 yards to move the chains, the Huskies schemed up a clever little pick play with Jordan Chin, who was playing in place of an injured Bynum. Chin does a good job of impeding the Utah defender without contacting him, and it creates an easy pitch-and-catch to Otton for 9 yards and a first down.
• There were so many other big plays that it might be easy to forget this one: Molden and Alex Cook leveling a ball carrier short of the line to gain on third-and-2 at UW’s 49 in the fourth quarter. That’s a tough area of the field to try to get much done with Molden lurking.
-
Chindredible technique by #ourChin there on pick.

Can't stop watching the blitzer (Ulo?) in the last clip. His choppy side to side running style (maybe it's the low framerate) implies that he needs to take a massive dump, or already has. Woof!

For everyone who has been frustrated with Asa seeming to avoid contact, I wanted to point out this play again. Obviously Molden played it amazing, but peep Alex Cook. He was flying in and looking to deliver a knock out. Had the runner not been first hit by Molden, Cook would have blown him up.
Encouraging, especially when considering that Lake said Cook won the job because he’s an enforcer. Would like to see this continue.
As for Asa, this is the kind of play I want to see from him. He was soft against Utah, bailing out on the Bentley TD scramble, but against Arizona he had two breakups across the middle. More of Arizona Asa, less of Utah Asa. -

It’s almost like it’s pretty clear I’ve been a pro Asa guy the whole time, poasting about how he is a leader during fall camp and has a bright future. I was merely addressing other people’s concerns and giving an example of what I want to see out of him. I even included examples of his good performance against Arizona. I’ve yet to shit on the kid.backthepack said:

Oh Good Lord. I am on the LIPO train with Asa and think people are being a little hard on him... but we all know if this was a DDY1 who was starting and playing like this Dennis would be SCREAMING about how shit recruiting is and talent matters blah blah fucking blah. He gives players he loves an insanely long leash but dudes he hates if they have 20 sacks in a game but miss 1 tackle they suck and fire that position coach!!!GrundleStiltzkin said:backthepack said:

Asa could have absolutely lit up the Arizona receiver on one of the break ups. Cook hits. Asa is the most talented, but if you haven’t noticed how little he likes to hit, you haven’t been watching. I recommend watching him for a handful of plays. I guarantee it is noticeable.DoogCourics said:

Dennis’ cherry picking has always been sofuckingirritating.gif. I guarantee if it was somebody he didn’t drool over his opinion would be different. It’s not his third start either. He started for half the season last year. I’m also not sure what that has to do with sticking your nose in there and delivering some blows.
Did Rapo, Ulo, MacIntosh, etc need multiple seasons to be physical? I don’t remember Azeem avoiding contact. For all the shit BBK took, he was still a willing tackler. He got dragged, but he didn’t avoid contact. -
Dennis would still probably pick Camilo Eifler over BBK.

When I watch back plays, I dont see a guy confused by the offensive scheme, taking wrong angles because the speed difference, or a step slow because he is over thinking things. Its not a matter of struggling to get into the game or just getting overpowered. I see a guy unwilling to even attempt to be physical.
Asa is supposed to be the 6'3" hard hitting safety that has it really fucking easy given how good the corners are. He played in every game last year except Cal (12 games).
Its not a physical or experience issue... its clearly his mentality.
Asa is easily one of the most infuriating players to watch this year, Olofosohioio is sprinting from Alaska to make tackles, Undersized molden is constantly throwing himself into the pile, ZTF is balling out, the corners are some of the best in the country and Asa is the weak link on the defense, mostly because he is fagging out not because he doesnt have the physical ability to play football.
Worst safety since Tripper Johnson.

He’s gotten on my nerves on a couple of plays and is underachieving but he’s not even worse than Kevin King was at safety.
We’ve been spoiled with amazing DB play lately and forgotten what actual bad DBs look like.
Asa will either figure it out or get beaten out.

The way Asa has played I'm starting to think that during his recruitment he wasn't having a hard time deciding between Notre Dame and W but he wanted to go to ND but they pulled out last minute and he was left with us.

I agree with @Houhusky that it is a mindset thing and doesn’t often change. He doesn’t like to hit which is kind of a prerequisite of playing safety. It’s not an experience thing. Young players aren’t ready physically sometimes but that’s not an excuse to be scared of contact.
I think he’s covering well. I haven’t noticed him give up any plays in the pass game, other than one ticky tack PI to Arizona.
I have a hard time saying he sucks. He’s soft and a bad tackler and I’ve noticed it since he played last year. I can’t recall a player in recent memory that was as adverse to contact as Turner looks to be.
The youth excuse is valid at times for mental errors or lacking strength. It’s doog bullshit about being physical. That is 100% a mindset thing and we have had tons of guys that made mistakes in their youth but at least had a physical mindset.
I see Ulo fuck up a time or two every game but it’s not because he’s soft. He didn’t need any games to show physicality. Errors because of aggression are preferable to errors because of being soft. -
