Yeah, that game sucked, but thankfully it was what Oregon needed to get ride of slingblade. Its much better to have a bad year than to have a bad decade, if you know what I mean. So it was a win/win for both teams.

Had Oregon lost close to UW, and still lost to OSU like they did, there's a good chance he would have gotten one more year. Getting bomb by UW eliminated any cushion he had, as his odds were greater than 50% he was getting fired regardless of the OSU game. But I agree the OSU took the over 50% chance and raised it to 100%. -

Unfortunately there was still more to it. Players weren’t being held accountable, skipping the weight room. The players really had no respect for slingblade, and those close to the program new it. The uw game gave the administration the backbone they needed to make a change. We? can only speculatre; but based on a lot of years of watching this game, it is usually not just losing unless the losses have really mounted and it's clear there's no coming back. The accelerant tends to be when the AD and every body else can see the coach has lost the team. One of the clearest signs a coach has lost a team is when they openly and obviously lay down and quit during a game. It's exactly why Al Golden got leveled at Miami. The team quit and got boat raced, most notably against fucking Virginia. Those situations have a certain look about them. Oregon laying down at home to Washington was one of those situations.
