She wasn't tased and arrested for not wearing a mask. She was tased and arrested because she was asked to leave and refused and resisted a police officer. Do I think it's stupid to kick a parent out who's social distancing without a mask when we allow people to eat at restaurants without masks, hell yes I do. However, do I think a school has the right to make a rule and if not followed you can be asked to leave? yes. In this case you either follow the rules of the establishment, aka the school, or don't attend. But when you are asked to leave and you refuse, you are trespassing, and if you resist a police officer it becomes a crime. If asthma was her problem, I imagine a face shield would have been an ok option as it's less restrictive than an actual mask. Stupid it came to that, but the parent should know better.

If she gets a good lawyer I wouldnt be surprised if she gets a hefty payout, If she gets a bad lawyer she will get resisting arrest and assault added onto the charges. She was in compliance of Ohio state law. The Ohio state law explicitly exempts those with asthma or other medical conditions and they admit in their post she informed the officer of her asthma well before the physical confrontation. Its my understanding that, generally, public schools have a limited ability to remove people from public extracurricular actives unless they are already in the commission of another crime or in violation of a posted legal notice.

FWIW Ohio state law:

Criminal Trespass on a Place of Public Amusement (§ 2911.23): It's unlawful to knowingly enter or remain on any restricted portion of a place of public amusement* and interrupt/cause the delay of the performance/event. In order to violate this statute, a written notice informing people that the area is restricted to the general public is required.

*Place of public amusement: stadium, theater, or other facility at which a live performance, sporting event, or other activity takes place for entertainment of the public and to which access is made available to the public.
