SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — PG&E has been directed by the California Independent System Operator (ISO) to begin shutting off power as CAISO has declared a statewide Stage 3 Emergency due to excessive heat driving up electricity use and putting strain on the grid.
The power outages will affect about 200,000 to 250,000 customers at a time in rotating power outages.
Other utilities in California are being directed to take similar actions.
The power will be turned off in rotating blocks until about 11 p.m. Power could be out for about one hour for each block.
42,455 Sonoma County residents are expected to be impacted by blackouts.
As of 9:04 p.m., PG&E says no more outages are planned for Friday night. Crews are working to restore power to those customers who were affected by the shutoffs.
Full restoration is expected by 11 p.m.

They take down the tits which was 15% of power production. They replaced it with whining, crying and the gnashing of teeth.

Cali now going full Jimmy Carter and solving the energy problem with admonishment to sweat your ass off.

I remember when the Soviet Union did this to quell unrest in the republics. Daddy government controls all.

shithole -
last time this happened they recalled the governor and we ended up with the Govenator

California can do what it wants. I assume they like not having enough power

Thankfully I live on the side of the hill that doesn't need AC but if you're anywhere in the central valley or too far away from the ocean anywhere south of Santa Cruz right now you're roasting in California. This "shortage" is entirely the fault of the Rat party and the Green New Deal supporters.
We pay some of the highest rates in country for electricity and our shitty state government has us living like Haitians when it comes to our power supply. -
Cali shut down natural gas generation of power without a substitute and instead of a surplus we have rolling blackoutsSFGbob said:Thankfully I live on the side of the hill that doesn't need AC but if you're anywhere in the central valley or too far away from the ocean anywhere south of Santa Cruz right now you're roasting in California. This is the brain power of your leftist government hack -
With the blackouts for the Santa Ana winds and now this - I'd be looking at a good size generator - just like in the third world.

California inching closer and closer to Venezuela by the day.

Natural gas generation was initially pushed in California as a method to do away with the remaining coal fired power plants. They built plenty of them but Jerry Brown and now Newsom have been busy shutting them down.RaceBannon said:

Why not just buy power on the open market at market price?
California has a big — and growing — glut of power, an investigation by the Los Angeles Times has found. The state’s power plants are on track to be able to produce at least 21% more electricity than it needs by 2020, based on official estimates. And that doesn’t even count the soaring production of electricity by rooftop solar panels that has added to the surplus.

The problems come when you have a heatwave like we're experiencing now and the sun goes down. No electrical generation from solar panels at night, and the other states aren't willing to sell you their surplus because they are all experiencing increased load demands from their customers. The state should have kept enough NG powered electrical generating power stations around but they dismantled them on account of the Green Energy requirements mandated by the state government.doogie said:Why not just buy power on the open market at market price?

Problem is that its like telling people to just stock up on toilet paper last April. There is only so much of it and its all sold out and they can only make so much of it. Generally, a combined cycle natural gas power plant can produce electricity at say $30 a megawatt hour. Right now the spot price for a megawatt hour of electricity in California in some places right now is above $120 an hour. To protect against running out of electricity you need to have excess production capacity, usually natural gas based. Cal regulates the utilities ability to have that excess capacity because it's expensive if you only need it for on rare occasions. There isn't anything big government can't do.

Sounds like you aren’t paying enough. Up the offer or sit and sweat.SFGbob said:

The states with the stash, obviously disagree California is paying enough

Not even the LA times in 2017 could predict just how much having Democrats control everything would fuck up the state. Those rooftop solar panels really helped a lot.doogie said:Why not just buy power on the open market at market price?

Thank gawd for the many Columbia and Willamette dams or Kate Brown and the Rat super-majority would have Oregon in rolling blackouts by now, too. Of course they want to eliminate some of the dams because seals or sea lions are eating salmon or something.
Can’t let us average people have a permanent source of relatively inexpensive electric generation.
