Sounds like a lot of Freshmen and Sophomores will be starting in the PAC-12 this season.
A group of Pac-12 football players from multiple schools is threatening to opt out of both preseason camps and games until its negotiations with the league regarding concerns about racial injustice, their safety during the coronavirus pandemic and other demands are completed.

Because Pac12 athletes have been so oppressed and discriminated against.

The most privileged group on campus. GFY

Like we say, fuck off.

Tryon and Ty Jones are signed on.
-
I’m not sure what is worse, that list of demands or the fact the Pac-12 will actually try and give in and act on the non-Covid stuff.
No shocker Ty is on there...he hasn’t been all-in on football for a while. Tryon isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and costing himself serious $$$ if he goes along with it. It’s too politically incorrect to tell these folks to pound sand, but it may help accelerate the decision to cancel the season for the Covid. -
I got no issue with trying to improve situations
I got no problem with saying that there are fundamentally broken issues within NCAA sports that need to be addressed
I’m also not sure I agree with any line of thought that is tied to players suggesting an education isn’t a form of compensation or any comments of systemic harm against AA athletes. Willing to be open to arguments to persuade me though. -
Is it bad I think the funniest part of this list is the demand to reinstate sports at Stanford who’s participants are largely from rich, white families (rowing...fencing...synchronized swimming...sailing...etc) in the name of social justice?

Seems none of them are familiar with Title IX

Been saying for years that’s the most straightforward solution. Axe title 9, turn the non rev sports into club sports, provide a standard base salary to p5 football and basketball players with that pot.whatshouldicareabout said:Seems none of them are familiar with Title IX

I was led to believe on this bored that Emmert, Scott, and Jen Cohen were all terrible - but now I’m to understand from this thread the players themselves are even worse?
Sounds like a situation that isn’t sustainable and should be completely blown up -
Right just eliminate title 9. Rather easily. No one will carentxduck said: -
Brb, gotta run to the Supreme Court and overturn Title IX.

Ty Jones
LOL
GTFO -
People might be surprised that Nixon signed the executive order that made title 9
-
I don’t think people know what Titke IX is.ntxduck said:
Do people really think it’s is about scholarships? There is a lot more to it. They aren’t going to reduce women’s participation because Ty Jones wants to be paid money. -
The irony of the situation is that, for the purpose of reducing discrimination in college athletics, they want to repel the very law that outlaws discrimination in federally funded programs.HuskyJW said:

Don’t think it’s that ironic. Like a lot of legislation, it was passed with good intentions at a time when legislation was needed. As times have changed, the regulation has become more and more outdated.whatshouldicareabout said: -
My Cougs are sacking players left and right.

Rolo don’t play. I would not have done that as a coach as kids are dumb and need some lenience to figure out.
Ironically, if the players get what they want this is how cutthroat coaches would get in the new version of college football.
Kickers would get dropped all the time for missing kicks and they better not be on a free ride if they suck. -
Have fun in the MWC, Cuog.

I know this Coog action is titillating to all of those on this bored who hate the players, but this is a hilariously bad move PR and negotiation-wise
Makes me look forward to all the additional terrible decisions and responses we will see from the conference and other schools in the coming days -
Title ix is what gave us gender neutral bathrooms in schools, which moved quickly to state laws expanding that beyond schools.
https://education.findlaw.com/discrimination-harassment-at-school/title-ix-protections-for-transgender-students.html
Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in schools and other education programs that receive federal funding. Given that the vast majority of schools receive some form of federal funding, Title IX's reach is wide. Although many people associate Title IX with college and high school athletic programs, the law applies to participation in other extracurricular activities such as school bands and clubs, and it protects students from sex-based discrimination in general.

Staggeringly stupid move, on many levels. Foremost, this will probably be a moot poont because the season will be cancelled. It may well burn out on its own, but if something comes of it, decisions will be made above Rolo’s pay grade.DoubleJDawg said:I know this Coog action is titillating to all of those on this bored who hate the players, but this is a hilariously bad move PR and negotiation-wise

ATBS, Go Cuogs!!! -
I didn't think it was possible to hire a coach dumber than Leach, never underestimate the coug

Just get rid of CFB. My care meter is pegged on low. Perhaps the kids shouldn't have picked this moment in history to make a huge list of demands. Strike while the iron is hot and all but after 40 M out of work, truncated season, and riots everywhere, I'm not sure that many people honestly give a fuck anymore. I know I don't. Could care less if UW ever plays a football game again. If they do, with student athletes, I might watch. If they do it with revenue sharing employees, I won't. Simple.
If the kids really want all this, and I support their right to go for it, then just form the D league now and get to it. Maybe it will work like gangbusters for them. I won't watch so I don't care, but maybe others do care?
Best part of the collapse of college football is that Oregon never won a NC before they went semi-pro. Suck it Ducks! -
