Jar of Flies - Alice In ChainsFO row peter puffer.
I could have gone with Superunknown. Jar of Flies is just ridiculous though. Thematically they didn't lighten up much, but the musical style is a total departure. AIC did not stagnate the least bit after Dirt which was a career defining release. -

Dookie - Green DayI wouldn't rank "Dookie" the best if I heard it for the first time today, but man...back in middle school, when that album came out, it was the absolute tits.

Weezer - Weezer
It's got some catchy tunes. I don't think it holds up that well 26 years later though.greenblood said:I wouldn't rank "Dookie" the best if I heard it for the first time today, but man...back in middle school, when that album came out, it was the absolute tits.

Fuck Weezer. Rivers Cuomo is a little midget bitch, he may even be too short to 69 godawgs91. In summation, I hope Rivers Cuomo sits on a pineapple and then a Chinese satellite lands on him.

Sure, he's a little midget Harvard bitch. But their first record was still wonderful.RatherBeBrewing said:Fuck Weezer. Rivers Cuomo is a little midget bitch, he may even be too short to 69 godawgs91. In summation, I hope Rivers Cuomo sits on a pineapple and then a Chinese satellite lands on him.

My GF loves Green Day, and her and I both have disdain for the others' musical taste. Therefore they suck.YellowSnow said:

Actually catchy is exactly right. They sound good in the background but bore me if I pay attention. -
Weezer - Weezer
I remember my having a GF phase. Summer time and living was easy.chuck said:

I remember having a wife phase. I didnt care for it. They're not really that different except that I could leave anytime now without filing any court documents.YellowSnow said:

Weezer - WeezerMy answer would change all the time, but the Weezer album is great.
I think STP Purple was released in 94 too and is easily their best album and when they proved they weren’t really a knock off Grunge band. -
Weezer - Weezer
It's a necessary evil for the successful raising of genetic copies of one's self.chuck said:

Superunkown - SoundgardenThis is one hell of a deep field. I wouldn't hate on anyone voting for Weezer, Jar of Flies, Dookie, Purple as RoadDawg mentioned or even Nirvana Unplugged (which I've probably listened to more than any of these although it contains the least new music).
Rock's final peak year. -

Actually the minute plus of excitement, when I grunted my son into the ex in the bathroom while guests sat in the living room passing the bong, is about the fondest memory I have of that experiment. I guess I dont regret it. -
Weezer - Weezer
Agree. I think 1994 is darn near as impressive as 1991. Sometimes I think Unplugged is Nirvana's finest recording and it's easily the best of the "unplugged" albums of the era. I vastly prefer Vitalogy to Ten and think this was PJ's best work.dnc said:This is one hell of a deep field. Rock's final peak year.
As someone who grew up in a cultural wasteland of Utah, it took me a few years to catch up on what was happening musically in the early 90's. By 1994 it was in your face. -
Dookie - Green DayHands down.
And still holds up today.

It's not that Dookie isn't a good record. It's fun and catchy but at the end of the day, it's too late 70's punk revivalist sounding to me. Put it on next to Nevermind and it sounds trite to my ear. Weezer's debut album was a much better synthesis of late 70's influences (e.g., Kiss, Cheap Trick, etc) into a new sound.Fenderbender123 said:Hands down.

Superunkown - SoundgardenUltimately, I couldn't vote against @Swaye

Weezer - WeezerBlue album is the one I've listened to the most of the listed. All good.
-
Dookie - Green DayBasketcase is probably the only song on that album that I liked when it came out, but don't really like today.
I like this one...probably can't get away with these lyrics today.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-oKdvFCC8Tc

Dookie - Green Day
That combination is what makes it so great. Such a raw, yet catchy sound...couple that with the edgy lyrics, and it's always a good choice for blowing off steam when I leave the office in a bad mood.YellowSnow said:

Weezer - WeezerI’m a rare Soundgarden fan that actually likes Down on the Upside better than their two first albums.
It was the first Soundgarden album I listened to and I used to ride to baseball games with my dad blasting it. Critics didn’t like it as much as I did tho. -
