We know the later is true...Trump wasn't briefed. Documentation would be there if he was. We know basically nothing on the former, and the fact the NSA strongly denied it makes it seem highly unlikely...just because some terrorist in a jail cell says something to try and get out doesn't make it automatically true. I doubt Russia (or any stable nation not named Iran or North Korea, and even the later is unlikely) would directly pay anybody to attack us and leave a money trail...its almost suicidal. Especially when the group are radical Islamists like the Taliban...the Russians absolutely hate those groups even more than we do.

The sad part is complete mental midgets like HHusky, SincerelyFS, and others buy this hook, line, and sinker...the NYTs and WP even knows its not true, but they don't care. They are just pushing an agenda that willing sycophants blindly follow because Orange Man Bad.
