Welfare Unemployment Pork

Business leaders “cited challenges in bringing employees back to work, including workers’ health concerns, limited access to childcare, and generous unemployment insurance benefits,” the report said.
I can support taxpayers temporarily shouldering the load for a month or two during a crisis. Allowing the lazy more tim on the tit makes no sense. Also allow more businesses to open. Now. Those that want to stay away can fuck right off. That is all.

Well said @baseman.

This was entirely predictable, in fact many on the right did predict this would happen. They were quickly drowned out by the left with claims that they didn't care about working class people. Bernie was one of the loudest voices browbeating any Republican who said that paying people more money not to work would have exactly this result.Baseman said:https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/27/fed-beige-book-many-workers-dont-want-to-come-back-to-their-jobs.html

We were able to keep our lead employed and semi busy. I was kind of fishing for a compliment and he said he wished he had gotten unemployment like his buddy

Hello, would you like your job back?
No.
Ok - my next call is the Employment Security Department telling them that you refused a legitimate job offer and your benefit payments will be terminated. Are you sure that is your final answer?

I'm not even sure I'd call it laziness. Why would you take less money to go back to work at a dead-end job if the government is paying you to stay home, providing you with the theoretical free time to work on building more marketable skills for future employment?
This issue falls squarely at the feet of Congress for only having a short term solution so far. The $600 backstop ends in July regardless. Once that artificial spending is wiped out, the real economic pain begins. -

I'm left because I believe we need help crafting affordable healthcare and education. Saving from cutting extended unemployment and entitlement for slackers would go along way in funding needed programs for low and middle class families who work and can't afford healthcare and undereducated kids who with higher paying jobs, provide more tax revenue that also help fund education and healthcare. Even with a flat tax, skilled $150k workers (tech and science) end up paying ~$15k more in tax than a $30k McDonalds employee or $50k a year clerk.Swaye said:

Oh and once again, fuck Bernie and AOC's free lunch agenda. There's a way to get shit done if our politicians get their shit together, roll up their sleeves and compromise. Won't happen with moronic Nancy and Chuck and Trump and O'Connell. -
Not true.. The far left may hate America, not me. we've lost our way. Too much petty shit. Too much stupidity. Too many programs that stifle progress and enable the lazy to sit on their ass..Pitchfork51 said:All leftists are America hating fags
Left learners like me support investment for a more prosperous future. Trickle down tax economics doesn''t work. Raising living standards through education and keeping working folks and their families healthy means more sales of goods and services. Higher salaries workers generate more tax revenue, though better skills not an exorbitant minimum wage. gouging producers is unamerican. As the wealth gap between the rich and poor continues to grow, at some point a Bernie or AOC like socialist will end up in the White House. -

Education does need to be reformed. Get the feds out and outlaw teacher unions and let states and local government bring back needed classroom discipline. None of which is on any dems plate.

If we get any more help crafting affordable health care no one will be able to afford it

Exactly, inner city Detroit is definitely the result of the rule of law and strong protection of private property that is a hallmark of capitalism.

I sincerely hope that if anyone is doing this, that they selected the option not to pay taxes on it and will get a fat bill from the gvmt next tax season.

Agreed. I support investing an education for future revenue and fewer entitlements. That said if you want a philosophy or humanities degree, pay for that shit yourself. Higher skilled workers will more than repay whatever tax subsidies helped earn that degree. It's not for everyone. if we move the needle on higher paying jobs, do the math. An average of $25,000 - $100,000 more in yearly income x 15% - 25% for qualified lower to upper middle class grads raises gross tax revenue. Give the Dems a program like this in exchange for cutting the cord on long term government welfare. I'm not smart enough to run the math but in theory it should provide a healthy ROI and MAGREATERPitchfork51 said:

The bigger problem was No Child Left Behind, what a fucking dreckfest that was. I was basically raised under that system (graduated high school in 2013) and the amount of bullshit it enabled was unbelievable. Half the teachers you got would only teach to standardized tests because their bonuses were tied to it. Practical and engaging learning that involved critical thinking didn't exist unless you got lucky with who your teacher was.Pitchfork51 said:

The other consequence of it was that you were basically mandated to focus on the core subjects with not much room for the practical stuff as electives. In my high school, you basically had 1 free block to take an elective each semester. Not enough. -
