Official Stats are for loosers thread

Updated March 20, 2020
This page will be updated regularly at noon Mondays through Fridays. Numbers close out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting.
COVID-19: U.S. at a Glance*
Total cases: 15,219
Total deaths: 201
Jurisdictions reporting cases: 54 (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)
* Data include both confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 reported to CDC or tested at CDC since January 21, 2020, with the exception of testing results for persons repatriated to the United States from Wuhan, China and Japan. State and local public health departments are now testing and publicly reporting their cases. In the event of a discrepancy between CDC cases and cases reported by state and local public health officials, data reported by states should be considered the most up to date.

a doc said it was like a bad flu season
better shut down the world and ruin lives over it, put people out of work, ruin people's investments -
None of the data matters much, yet, IMO. There was no baseline and now that testing is being done we can establish one to learn what the actual rate of growth is. Given the virus has been circulating for some time this will still probably take another couple weeks.
-
Yup. Been saying that two weeks is the line of demarcation for crisis or nothing burger. The data set is too small and sample size too biased toward death right this moment. Over the next two weeks, the denominator is going to increase and the mortality rate is going to plunge.BleachedAnusDawg said:None of the data matters much, yet, IMO. After two weeks society will calibrate the acceptability level and determine their tolerance for risk of death vs risk of resumption of somewhat normal life. -
The thing is that as usual the left and the media shoot themselves in the foot in the hopes everyone will turn on Trump.PurpleThrobber said:

For them we absolutely have to get it far worse than Italy or Iran because Trump. How could we not? They are hoping and praying for hundreds of thousands of deaths. Millions.
When we end up way better off than Europe they will lose it again. And so the cycle continues. Theyve lost all reason. -
Even if everyone turned on Trump he still doesn't lose to Biden. Biden is not fit to be president.
If the Dems were serious about winning they would replace Joe with someone else. -
Why would you even try to win when right now it's perfect. You get outraged about Trump every day, accomplish nothing, and your base loves you for it.jecornel said:Even if everyone turned on Trump he still doesn't lose to Biden. Biden is not fit to be president.

If the Dems win there is some actual pressure to pass stuff and then the base remembers they hate you.
End up getting voted out in favor of the squad.
If I'm an old shady Democrat in a progressive area a dem president is my nightmare. -

I'm basically in the same place at you, which is let's see where we're at in 2 weeks and re-visit. If it's not looking that bad in terms of the strain on the medical system then we need to go to olds and other vulnerables do their distancing, and get the rest of the economy open. -

It’s Sunday. A lot of precincts won’t report until later tonight or early morning. At least that’s what I’ve seen so far on Worldometers.YellowSnow said:

Im old enough to remember when Libs would just rip Trump on fake conspiracy, pussy grabbing and Policy.
Now it’s all about big body counts. I swear half of them want this thing to blow up some more just to delay what they think is automatically gonna be a big recovery.
But what they fail to realize is that if restrictions are the same on June 1st, as they are now. There will be no comeback to how things were on even March 1st. -
It's the safe play, set the bar high.
The 24/7 ticker tape of deaths has turned this thing into an all out political blame game of who is doing the least/most.
