I don't edc but the two most useful knives I've ever carried are a Leatherman Surge (pliers are precise and robust) and a Fiddleback Bushcrafter.

Knife? That's not a knife

Not really a self defense thing, although it can serve that purpose in an emergency. Just a handy tool.PurpleThrobber said:

Some think you can’t be a real man w/o a pocket knife. They are just so handy.ThomasFremont said:

The next tim I open a bear with my knife will be the first. But I’ve opened up many beers with the same, and that’s just as good.YellowSnow said:

Needs to be a lock blade whatever you decide.
Ask me how I know. -
Lynnhood but yeah, quality shit. I have their Super Bowie. They'll clean it up and put a razor edge back on it any time for free, which is handyhuskyhooligan said:SOG, which is based out of Edmonds / Mountlake Terrace, makes Tool Logic card knife.

I have a SOG Seal knife already. Great for going off into the woods or something. Not so great for carrying around everyday.huskyhooligan said:SOG, which is based out of Edmonds / Mountlake Terrace, makes Tool Logic card knife.

I forgot they were a local company. Going with them for sure.

I used SOGs for years. But Boker is the tits at the price point. I carry the Tanto (lulz) now. Great knife.

I ended up getting a pretty cheap SOG just to try it out. Unfortunately the blade length limit and the law against spring assisted opening narrowed my options quite a bit. Plus I didn’t want any weird colors.
Tanto...ROFL. I went with a “David” Bowie blade, because I’ll be “dancing” in the streets with it.

I carried the CRKT M16-14 for years. Fits in a front pocket (khakis not jeans) and holds up well.

Kershaw Leek.
It's a really nice flipper for the money. -
SOG does all the blades for Leatherman multitools as well. An old friend designs and engineers a lot of their products. With SOG and a couple other brands, you're going to get some good metal which makes all the difference. I have a leatherman (gift) and a SOG that are pretty handy.
Woot.com will sometimes have deals on SOG or other brands.
They currently have a couple deals: https://sellout.woot.com/offers/sog-boning-blade-with-aus-8-steel-sog-hunspoint-3-6-fixed-1?ref=w_cnt_lnd_cat_sprt_2_7
Honestly a swiss army knife, if you keep it sharp, is a solid pick up. Family friend has had same one for years, and I witnessed him cut and slice through a four inch thick branch with one, relatively quickly.
