This is some of the doogiest shit I’ve ever seen. I’ve left for a couple hours and all the sudden people are bitching about To’oto’o playing inside and how do we take 5 backers. Wtf has happened to you guys? Bob Gregory was lucky enough to get Jackson Sirmon last year and now all of the sudden he’s gonna beat Bama straight up for TWO LB’s...? Why do you guys do this yourselves?

Why don't you just come out and say you think he was hired?dnc said: -

Its true that his head coach stint is meaningless
It's also true that he was Chip Kelley's OC.
Not sure what that role was tbh. -
He didn't call plays at Oregon. Nor at Chicago I don't believe.RaceBannon said:Its true that his head coach stint is meaningless

Didn't set up either of those offenses either I don't think.
Maybe he called plays at Colorado but I don't think that's a positive.
I have a hard time seeing why he'd be an attractive candidate. -
No wonder Eason left.

Good offensive mind. Efficient balanced up tempo offense. Prefers tall athletic dual QB threats. Developed a raw Mariotta into a Heisman winner. Won with VAJ. Signed and began Herbert's development. Helfrich did miss on Tua and Kelly called the plays at Oregon. Kelly credited Helfrich for Oregon's offensive success.dnc said:
Helfrich will appeal to highly rated HS QBs. Huff and Adams are proven recruiters. we need a solid x and os OC.
-
He didn't. He enhanced Kelleys scheme. Tribusky had no weapons in Chicagodnc said:

What the fuck! He hasn’t called plays in over a decade. He didn’t even call plays for the Bears or the Quooks.

How come every ex-coordinator we ever hire never actually supposedly calls plays?
Who are these closeted OC’s that nobody knows about? -
A lot of HCs call plays.HuskyJW said:How come every ex-coordinator we ever hire never actually supposedly calls plays?

If you want Herbie to call you a genius you dont let someone else call the plays.dnc said:

There is so much money thrown around at the genius of the week.
The head coach should have veto power. The OC should call the plays
Or the quarterback. Old school -
Helfrich blasted the doors off a team in the playoffs 2 years after chipper threw himself into a wood chipper
He knows offense. Id be happy with him. The guy did more for Oregon than Pete did for UW -

I am pretty firmly (lulz) against Helfrich as it's still debated how much of an impact he really had while working under revolutionary-at-the-time Chip. And he sucked everywhere else.
That being said, to play devil's advocate you can also argue that Chip never was remotely as good either once he was separated from Helfrich. And the VAJ Oregon offense might have been their best O of that era if he had stayed healthy. So yeah idk. -
Helfrich had his play calling duties stripped after the Boise St game in 2009. That was the first and only game Helfrich ever play called. Can you be a good coordinator and not call plays? I guess, but not likely.Gladstone said:I am pretty firmly (lulz) against Helfrich as it's still debated how much of an impact he really had while working under revolutionary-at-the-time Chip. Frost called plays 2013 and onward? Helf never did? Holy christ. So much for playing devil's advocate.PandaOrangeChiknDuck said:

@HelfrichFamilyVan what say you?

Correct. I'm sure Helf called things here and there, but he has not been the primary play caller for a team since 2008. Kelly, Frost, and Nagy all called the plays. Helf is a glorified analyst.Gladstone said:

Is it possible we hired him as an assistant a la tedford with someone else doing playcalling. Im on board with that.dtd said:

For fuck saKe I go back to work today and we let this happen!?!
Firmly against sling blade.
That said he is probably better than bush. But still. -
It's entirely possible he'd be a fantastic play caller. /shrug I think his biggest issue is that he hits on his QB recruits about 1 in 4 times.UW_Doog_Bot said:
