Solid, not spectacular hire. He was one of 2 DB coaches on the 247 30 under 30 list this season so that's encouraging.

Elwyn “Rip” Rowan, Washington, Defensive Quality Control (28): A four-year starter at Austin Peay, Rowan started his coaching career in 2014 at Northwest High School in Tennessee. Since then, he’s had GA stints at Southern Miss and FAU. He was headed to Illinois this offseason, but Washington snatched him up as a quality control coach after a short stint with the Illini. Said one FBS coordinator of Rowan: “He’s a heck of a young coach.” -

Seems like a good addition to me. I dont have anything good or bad to say about Harris, but I was not excited about him being the sole gy in charge of the secondary. This guy has a great track record so far and knows Lake's methods. The secondary should be in good hands

This seems like a safe hire and makes a lot of sense. Rather than trying to reinvent the DB coaching with Gerald, he’s going to try to keep the current philosophy and coaching going by bringing in another disciple who learned under him. Might not be a sexy hire but it makes a ton of sense. Jimmy isn’t looking to rock the boat too much on what’s already working.
