Think I would kind of like these hires.

in Hardcore Husky Board
Gotta payoff Hamdan so maybe around 3 million available. Jimmy seems reluctant to get rid of Bob so accounting for that:
Chip Long-OC (He seems like a run first, pass second guy)
Antonio Pierce-Co-DC, Linebackers (Make ASU pay him big to keep him)
Ryan Gunderson-QB, TE, Passing game (Double his salary and still a bargain)
Bob G.-Special Teams

    Are you just recruiting players or do these guys actually have to coach. All are great recruiters

    Listened to an analytics dude a week or so ago that said Long is a perfect fit for Oregon. That the pace of play fit perfectly with a physical and defensive minded team. Essentially the plays per game fit great with a ball control and grind teams into dust strategy (think opposite of how many plays WSU runs and how much their defense is left on the field, or how the LSU defense is giving up a lot of points now that the offense is lighting it up). They also discussed his run/pass split and it was essentially balanced no matter the down and distance or quarter. His efficiency numbers were also stellar.

    The analyst was specifically discussing fit with Oregon’s defense and Crystoballz grind it out mentality, but honestly after an hour of listening to it, I really liked what I heard.

    The guy said Kelly was an idiot for letting him go.

    Money and promotions have turned many heads. He just got passed over for DC at ASU and might see a better path at UW, especially because we can splash the cash. His new title at ASU is fairly worthless and he might be feeling a bit rejected.

    It's a good point. Seems like that's what folks were saying about Oregon's staff. Just a bunch of recruiters. Didn't seem to hurt them on the field last two years.

    Mario is much more content to grind out 21-17 wins and have the ball for a ton of time than try to score 56 points a game. That’s what makes Alvos’s D work. Keeping the the D fresh and grinding down opponents over time. Most Oregon fans were worried about losing Alvos rather than Arroyo leaving.
    I’m also still not sold about Pierce as a coach. His biggest claim to fame has been getting Johnny Wilson to flip from Oregon to ASU, which was a bigger gain for ASU than lose for Oregon. Besides what’s the fucking line backer coach doing recruiting receivers? That guy was flipping before Pierce got there.

    Here's a hint. If you go 3 and out or stall the offense, you no longer have the ball for a ton of time.

    After the first drive,which was scripted the rest of the first half was basically 3 and out with few first downs sprinkled here and there.
    I think Herbert is an ok QB and Arroyo an ok OC (not head coach) but together it didn’t work. The game that Oregon’s offense looked the best (Nevada) Arroyo wasn’t even at. Mastro called the plays that game.

    Exactly this.

    It works out here b/c Pac-12 football outside us on D the last 6 years and Utah (who doesn't have the athletes) are built on finesse.

    Mario is more than happy to get it to the 4th quarter and then just play smashmouth until you give up.

    This year. Bree land and the guys filling in for him did just fine. I like throwing to the TE, but they can move OL (hi Luchianno) to be extramy blockers and be fine. It’s not a requirement to have good TE’s to have a good offense. It certainly helps, but there are ways around it.

    TE was a miss for the class this year. Webb can catch but needs to work on blocking. Health has been a big issue at that spot the past couple years.
