This is the most fucking anal tard cake debate of all time. Ricky's game day corching in 2000 bested anything that Pete did for us. But Pete's overall program building skillz (at multiple programs) crush anything Rick was capable of. For the love of Pete, let's try and keep this objective.

In the words of Race Parcells: you are what your record says you are.

    Rose Bowl Wins

    Rick - 1

    Toothy Frat Boy - 0

    Cooked.
    Pete: 2 Pac Titles in 6 years = .333%

Ricky: 1 Pac Title in 4 years (would have been 1 of 6 if hes stays) = .25%

    Pete: successful at 2 programs

Rick: won initially with other dude's guys and then started to trend downward at 2 schools.

Pete beat Stoops. Rick beat Purdue.

One is a really good coach and one is average. Helfrich won a playoff game. It doesn’t make him good. Same with Rick and the Rose Bowl. We were trending down with Rick. We wouldn’t have went 6-6 and 1-11 like we did under Gilby, but Rick wouldn’t have made us good those years.

    Terrible.

The Pac 10 in 2000 was literally three times harder than Pete's most challenging season in the P12 and it's not close.

    Fuck outta here.

Rick was a 1 hit wonder. It was a great hit - don't get me wrong. He inherited a program that was 2 years removed from being ranking #3 in the country heading into the 1997 season. Pete inherited a program which hadn't been relevant nationally in 15 years. Washington making the CFP in 2016 was far more of a turnaround jerb that what Rick pulled off in 2000.

It was also the product of playing in a fucking shit ball conference and you know it.

You also know that going through the Pac 10 in 2000 was a far different animal.

Bottom line: he coached his team to a win in the Rose Bowl when presented the chance. Pete shit himself in every NY6 bowl game he was in. The moments were always too big for him. THAT is what is going to be written on his tomb stone. I will see to it.

    Lost to Bamers
    Lost to Penn State
    Lost to Ohio State

Only one of those three teams were elite. The other two were just good.

And I've already stated in this thread, that Ricky's game day corching in 2000 was better than anything we got out of Pete. However, all 3 of the above teams were vastly better than Purdue. 2018 Ohio State was an elite team talent wise. 2017 Penn State had the future NFL rookie of the year at RB and was like 4 pts away from the CFP.

Did Chad Ward sit out the Rose Bowl in 2000 to stay healthy for the draft?

Eh, Ohio State was very good though, though not Justin Fields elite. Different team this year. I don't know. The Bucks played without Nick Bosa too. There's always something to nit pick.

The records are what they are. The hardest part of winning those games is getting there, and Rick had a much, much tougher slog in 2000 than anything Toothy has ever faced his entire career.
