And yes Hondo, even though I didn't say it, my quality of life has been diminished. My car has been broken into twice. There is human shit and used needles outside of couple of locations where I do business. I don't enjoy seeing junkies shooting up on the streets and in the BART stations and the city where I work is filthier and more disgusting than at any time during my nearly 25 years of living here. That's my point Bob. Quality of life overall, across the population, has greatly improved in West coast cities. You are just stuck in this "shitting in the streets" narrative your news source pushes, you can't see past that. Being around Seattle in the 80s and 90s, the city is in a much better place now.

I've been around San Diego a lot since the early 2000s, the downtown area is vastly nicer now than it was then. I've only been to San Fran a few times, so I can't really speak on that City. But I've ridden the train into downtown and it's been great. (Whatever one from the airport, can't remember what they called it)

If you spend enough time in downtown Kansas City, St Louis, Atlanta, etc, you'll see all the exact same shit you do in San Fran.

Interesting because the population here in SF is only slightly larger than it was in the 1950s and in terms of rapid increase in the cities population growth the growth rates today pale in comparison to what they were in the 1930s 40s and 50s and that's when the city spent next to nothing on services and yet you didn't have people shitting in the streets back then.
