Leach and the “speed” defense

I know it’s tough to get prototypical DL but they don’t have to settle for 250 DL in an odd front.

Meat is lucky that Leech wasn't thinking about his D when he left a minute on the clock. Otherwise he loses at home because he lost his shit at the refs over a PI call.

Stopped that silly team from owning us finally. I hate playing that team, they do have our number and it's irritating.

What because of the false start on Sewell? He caused two cuogs to flinch. The they kept showing the camera angle from his backside where it looks like he didn't move. The first angle they showed he moved.lawsandl said:

Don't remember any other damning calls. Lots of physical play and shit talking down to inferior talent. Meat couldn't keep his mouth shut either. -

PI on Lenior twice, the non catch by JJIII, the false start and it was ticky tacky all around. Even softy was calling it out.haie said:

Sewell's was a false start. He flinched with his left leg, although it was very slight.haie said:

The crew messed up basic procedural calls/took way too long on discussions/replays all night (that crew is the worst in the Pac 12).
Worst call of the night was on Wazzu's go ahead drive.
2nd and 10, Lenoir broke on the ball for an int and the Coug wide receiver turned defender and somehow drug him down. They called PI on Lenoir.
If the right call is made--2nd and 25 at their own 15. Instead, it was 1st and 10 at the 40.
I don't think the refs almost cost Oregon the game, because (especially in the Pac12) you always have to assume the refs are going to suck and keep the other team out of striking distance where a bad call would make the difference between winning and losing. But that was an absurdly bad call.

Does anyone have the video showing Sewell moving his leg?

2014. Moving the ball downfield and unstoppable all 2nd half. Game ended on this play. It happens every game. Oregon isn’t special in this regard. -

The PI call on DL was horrendous. I actually think in the name of all of cfb that a thorough overhaul of the PI call is in order. I'd like to go back to - a long time ago - when you could touch a receiver. On that particular call, it should have been offensive PI. Levy even laughed at Griese, who had a hard on for WSU all night and was actually trying to make a case for the call, by pointing out that the receiver horse collared DL.haie said:

On the Sewell phantom flinch, they kept showing the only angle any of us saw. If you have another angle, use your considerable computer skills and post it for us.
Blaming the wefs is dumb; agreed. That said, every single poster on this board does it when the calls are of critical importance based on game/time circumstances.
But if you're going to talk about luck, then you have to talk about ALL the luck, which includes instances of Pac 12 refs not knowing what they're doing. Not just the instances that are selectively convenient to you.
Maybe if you'd spent some time in Savery Hall with the rest of us while taking a logical reasoning classes you'd be better prepared to have an even-handed discussion. -
To be honest, one of the great things about HH is that after the Oregon-UW game (and missed PI on the final drive) the consensus here from Husky fans was "we were playing at home and had a 14 point second half lead. It shouldn't have even come down to a single call".creepycoug said:

Compare that to Dawgman where there were 15 threads "OMG PI!!!". -
PI calls in the past several years have made college football almost unwatchable. It feels like the officials have their hand on the flag every time the ball goes in the air, and look for a reason NOT to call it. Even worse when there's a delayed call because the receiver begs for it just enough.creepycoug said:

On the Sewell flinch, I'm not convinced the refs saw anything. They saw an indignant defensive player throwing a fit to sell it and took a guess. -
The Oregon UW game was one bad call. Although I though Puka and Mykael got the feet tangled up. The ref also didn’t have the vantage point.
The Oregon WSU game was horrendous throughout. The zebras took over the game. -
That's because Dawgman is the kingdom of complete and utter retards. That's not the baseline.ntxduck said:

They do it here. Everybody but one or two posters will indulge. It's just the way it goes.
My point was that you can't cherry pick by focusing on one unlucky thing (the opposing coach being retarded) and not the others (the PI call was super bad and very untimely).
The other thing about Leach and using the clock is this: his is a rythm offense if there ever was one and much of its success is predicated on getting people out into routes quickly. He doesn't want to sit there in formation and give the defense a lot of time to sit there and stare at you and think about where you're going with the ball. Especially on quick slant routes, you want to get to the LOS and snap the ball. So I'm not entirely sure he was being retarded and think it more likely he was just running his offense.
None of this matters at all btw.
One thing I'm fairly convinced of: while Oregon's O line clearly run blocks well, they are going to be fucked if Verdell gets an injury that keeps him off the field for any length of time. Dye is a change-up kid and Habbibbi is a limited athlete. Oregon is still short on elite skill position guys. They need to recruit RBs like crazy. I don't know why they don't feed Darian Felix at all. Like, zero carries. He's as fast as Dye and bigger. On a more positive note, it looks like the Penn State kid showed up and Herbert has found him. That's a good development for the Ducks. -
I think not having Troy Dye hurt us defensively. As a lot of their big plays came over the middle against an inexperienced middle linebacker. However, I'm most disappointed with the D line. After playing lights out all season, they have been a huge let down the last couple week. Gordon at times had all day to throw even when we sent 4. They need to clean things up before Saturday. USC runs a similar system with better players at every position but Quarterback.

Just posted in another thread. Cumberlander's injury was bigger than I would have predicted. The defense was trash, except for the interceptions. They played like a JV squad. Absolutely loved watching the cougs drive the entire length of the field every drive, and barely ever even getting to 3rd downs.

Gordon could have crocheted a set of pink legwarmers, called their mom to discuss their gender identity, masturbated to porn of their choice (nothing wrong with whatever they chose), and then fired a predictable missile into Arconado wherever Arconado wanted to take it.greenblood said:I think not having Troy Dye hurt us defensively. All. Game. Long.
The lack of pressure on Gordon was ridiculous, even with a 3 man rush. Hell, our O-line struggled to give Herbert anywhere close to the amount of time that Gordon got, esp when either side knew a pass rush was cumming.
That was arguably the most disturbing aspect of the game for me. Watching fucking Wazzu's O-Line own our D-Line while our own vaunted O-Line couldn't give Herbert the same amount of time on most possessions. Ridiculous. -
Better be a wake up call for both sides of the ball to get it together, go to the Coliseum and plunger the Trojans.

WSU's D-line is shit. Oregon should be very afraid if Utah somehow gets to the CCG. Their defense will break Herbert.flatus said:
