Cuntry Music

@Tequilla I’m sure Buck Owens will get way more coverage than the new country artists.
-
Just set it up to record. 4 episodes, I hope it's as good as Chappelle.
-
Ken Burns needs a new wig.

Can't wait to hear how racist country music has been

Conservatives suck at documentaries. So we’re stuck with ol’ Kenny. Just have to grin and bear it.RaceBannon said:Can't wait to hear how racist country music has been

Liberal documentaries suck and there isn't anything that is true in them, but they hold your attention. I gave up on documentariesYellowSnow said:

In fairness to Burns I think most of his work has been good to great. He’s no America hating Antifa whack job like RaceLebamDawg said:

That woman looks like James Franco with a wig...hard pass

I'm about 2/3 into the first episode of the series. So far, it's pretty solid. Lots of good biographical stuff on the Jimmie Rogers and the Carter Family...stuff I definitely wasn't aware of previously. Never knew that the elites of Nashville didn't want anything to do with cuntry music originally. They thought they were supposed to be the "Athens" of the South and sophisticated.
No too much rayciscm hawt talk to trigger you guys. Just a lot of poor white and black people trying to make music. -
I've really been enjoying it.
-
As was the case with Jazz, they seem heavily focused on the early stuff. Half way through and they are just getting to Hank Sr. But I have learned a ton a history about the bios of Jimmie Rodgers, Carter Family, Roy Acuff, Bob Wills, the Opry, etc. Endlessly fascinating. Thank god they got in so much interview tape with Merle before he passed.GrundleStiltzkin said:I've really been enjoying it.

I missed Eps 1 & 2, I think. I'm more interested in the early so I'll need to find those two. Don't worry, you'll get a shit ton of Hank Sr as it goes on.YellowSnow said:

Not being a country music fan, I only knew the cartoonish version of Dolly. Young Dolly was hot as bawls and amazing singer.YellowSnow said:

when I first heard country music I hated it - loved the women. The duets of Dolly with Porter Waggoner were the ones I just could not handle.
Love 'em now. butt not the jackets

Saw an episode or 3,
goodGreat chit. -
Shit really starts to get interesting in country music when your get to Memphis in the early 50's. It's remarkable to consider that @dnc might be the most important city in the history of American popular music.

I watched all 10 shows finally. Best Burns since the Civil War. Wish I had played the guitar as a kidCFetters_Nacho_Lover said:GrundleStiltzkin said:

Agree. His best work since Civil War, although I thought Vietnam was really well done. But ol Ken seems to do well with the Souf.RaceBannon said:

I knew Dolly was the original pre Doc. I like hers the best, but more so because it's less cliche that Whitney. -
The way he covered the Nashville Sound versus the Outlaw sound was great. The 70's were a great mix of country, folk, and country rock
TBH I miss the old studio and album days. I know everyone can drop a song now and its completely democratic but we lose our shared experience -
The shared experience thing is a big problem for the country.RaceBannon said:The way he covered the Nashville Sound versus the Outlaw sound was great. The 70's were a great mix of country, folk, and country rock

I had a buddy in high school and his dad would have Porter Waggoner on the tv Saturday nights while we were all there getting ready to go get in trouble
Dolly would come on and we would all just stare. High school boys and that rack
And her voice and stuff too
I came (lol) to appreciate her as an artist
