FS Petersen does the opposite. He doesn't prioritize getting the best athletes the ball. Hell, sometimes they don't get on the field since his process takes too long to neuter them. Second, instead of designing offensive schemes that are difficult to defend, he designs them too complicated to execute efficiently.
it sounds so fucking basic. Get your best athletes the ball....what a concept!!!!
Oh, no. They have to first be great practice players and master Pete's overly complex schemes and personnel packages. It's hard. It takes 4 years to get a grasp on this shit.
The end of the EWU game was very telling. Spiker and Osborne finally saw the field, but they were not thrown to at all. They were basically out there, running vapid routes, as Sirmon just handed the ball off the kill the clock.
It was disappointing to not see the young receivers out there in the 3rd and 4th quarters actually catching some passes, Puka included.

If you can't see that Opera Singer and Fuller are the best athletes. Fuck it, I can't even complete the statement.
Irrelevant pedantics warning.
Spoiler
I've always drawn a distinction between athlete and player. Exhibit A is my man, Jake Lockner. He was probably always the best athlete—big, fast, strong, run, jump, throw, etc.—on any field. But he wasn't the best player, that is, the ability to put all the athletic attributes together to achieve a football result. Bacchanial by all accounts is a very good athlete. Not a very good football player. There's probably more examples of great players without being great athletes in high school ball than college. Whatever. I hope you didn't read this.
This is high school freshmen football shit. Put the best player at QB and the second best player at defensive end. They touch the ball 95% of the time.
BTW, is there any human with a bigger nose than Gerry DiNardo?

It's almost like Pete doesn't understand or refuses to accept the concept of some players being "gamers". "Practice. Watcha talking about practice"?

Craig Chambers comes to mind. Ran off by because he wasn't a good practice player and didn't suck off HWSNBN.

At the very least, you give younger players some snaps DURING MEANINGFUL TIME, to see how they react during a game situation. You can't identify gamers without game time. See Joe Ngata at Clemson. Didn't get a ton of opportunities but showed what he could do when he did. That's why I was screaming for Haener to get some series last year for Browning. He didn't and shit the bed when thrown in the deep end.

Smalls wants to play both ways.
When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to go...

It's hard. A lot harder than it needs to be.
This. End of story.
Just because Petersen runs a disciplined program and has put together a good staff does not mean he isn't FS in a lot of ways.
