247 West of the Rest Podcast
The idea then was long term, to do a podcast that would cover recruits in the West region, not just in the biggest market in the region, Southern California, but on the other fertile recruiting bases in the West- Arizona, Utah, Washington and Hawaii.
Eventually, it would be the entire West region and include those recruits from Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon and Wyoming as well as Samoa, American Samoa and parts of Canada.
About the Podcast
The West of the Rest Podcast is a new Podcast on the 247Sports Network covering Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference recruiting and West region football. It will feature recruits from the West region throughout the year as well as coaches and other recruiting industry guests.
About the Hosts:
- Blair Angulo is the Mountain and Island Region Recruiting Analyst for 247Sports.com, focusing on the states of Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah, while also contributing in the Southern California hotbed. He has been covering recruiting since 2011, with previous stints at ESPN Los Angeles, Scout and Rivals, where he co-hosted a weekly show that aired nationally on Yahoo! Sports Radio. Blair resides in Orange County, Calif.
- Brandon Huffman is the National Recruiting Editor for 247Sports.com and has been covering recruiting since 2003, starting out covering recruits in his native Southern California before expanding to a national analyst role in 2010. Prior to his time at 247Sports, he was the National Recruiting Director at Scout.com and FOXSports.com. He's appeared on numerous national and local television and radio shows covering regional and national recruiting. Brandon now resides in the Seattle suburb of Auburn with his family.

Discussed Rome Odunze on the latest podcast and also interviewed him:
- Commitment had national ramifications, not just West Coast
- Stock has skyrocketed this last summer, amazing testing numbers and straight line speed
- In camps this summer, showed he is more than just numbers and has shown he's improving his route running
- In less than 8 months Junior Adams has begun proving that he is an elite recruiter: Nacua, Racanelli, McMillan, and Odunze
- This is big for UW because Adams is already highly regarded as one of the best teachers of technique and developers of talent
- Rome said Adams was on him from the moment he was hired and not only is he a great coach, but his personality just clicks with recruits
- Feels UW is only a player or two away from being able to win a National Championship
- Rome said that being able to play with Nacua and McMillan was a big factor for him because they could be the best WR room in the country and will make each other better as well as make easier opportunities for each other
- Says he will continue to maintain relationships with coaches and players from other schools because that is the kind of person he is, but that he will only be setting up 1 official visit to Washington and no one else

Discussed 2021 and 2022 Rankings.
2021:
- JTT was extremely impressive this summer playing high level AAU basketball and then TE and S during 7on7 showing off his natural athleticism (He didn't start lifting weights until he turned 16 this year)
- Korey Foreman is the only person they can think of who could challenge JTT for #1, as he's been dominant against older players in 1on1 scenarios
- Sam Huard has a strong lock on the #1 QB spot, but will have to fend off Emeka for the #2 spot in WA. Huard has a beautiful throwing motion and a good arm (not the best), but no one has the pocket presence that he does and no one in HS goes through their progressions and makes the correct throw the way Huard does
- Emeka Egbuka has a continued trend upwards in the rankings and has the best chance in the top 10 to continue climbing over the next year, every time they evaluate him live he is clearly better than the last time
- Troy Franklin is a clear cut top 10 player in the class, but would drop to the #2 WR if they reclassify Emeka to WR over ATH. But that is not a knock on Franklin, he's a freak
- Julian Simon is getting a lot of comparisons to Myles Jack, and trending towards the defensive side of the ball and is expected to continue to move up the rankings
- Jabez Tinae is newer to the Top247 rankings, but has put up elite stats at Kennedy and should continue to do so with Huard throwing to him. He has a chance to get better but also be noticed because of who he plays with
- Owen Prentice will be a rare four year starter on the line in HS and is clearly the top OL in the PNW
- Kingsley Suamataia is the OL with the best chance to earn a 5th star over the next two years
- Moliki Matavao is the high upside TE in the class, and this summer has held his own against all the older players who are D1 commits
- Keith Brown (basically the only high end player in Oregon in the 2021 class) has chosen to do 7on7 camps to work on his coverage skills, joined FSP for next summer and has made a big jump in the rankings and they think will continue to climb
- Sam Hart has the best chance of TEs to get into the rankings over the next year, but that they have a hard time with TEs because their rankings are based off NFL draft potential, and their research has shown that the TEs that get drafted tend to be guys that have HUGE development jumps and weight gains during college -

2022:
- Dishawn Misa plays on a good defense for Eastside Catholic, but still started as a freshman. Best player in the state for 2022
- Dave Iuli started as a freshman, and the last 4 year starter for Puyallup was Josh Garnett
- Malik Agbo is not far behind Iuli, and has had a really strong offseason
- All 3 are top 100 overall players, but Huffman and Angulo think that there are some more Washington kids in the class who will push for top 100 overall by the time they graduate. Should be another elite in-state class -
