@dnc 247 explanation of their rankings:

"110 - 101 = Franchise Player. One of the best players to come along in years, if not decades. Odds of having a player in this category every year is slim. This prospect has "can’t miss" talent.

100 - 98 = Five-star prospect. One of the top 30 players in the nation. This player has excellent pro-potential and should emerge as one of the best in the country before the end of his career. There will be 32 prospects ranked in this range in every football class to mirror the first round of the NFL Draft.

97 - 90 = Four-star prospect. One of the top 300 players in the nation. This prospect will be an impact-player for his college team. He is an All-American candidate who is projected to play professionally.

89 - 80 = Three-star prospect. One of the top 10% players in the nation. This player will develop into a reliable starter for his college team and is among the best players in his region of the country. Many three-stars have significant pro potential.

79 - below = Two-star prospect. This player makes up the bulk of Division I rosters. He may have little pro-potential, but is likely to become a role player for his respective school."

You'll also notice how recruits rated as 4 and 5 stars have NFL comparisons in the their profiles as well as where they are projected to be drafted. This is common knowledge. How you have gone this long not knowing this is baffling. The rankings are based on projecting NFL draft potential, not college potential.

Excellent pro potential and mirroring the draft isn’t the same this as “projected first round picks”.

Pro potential is factored in, it’s still less significant than college potential.

ATBS that’s not how Scot did it who was the west coast standard for years. I concede I was wrong on 247.

Gets top 5 OL at the opening coming off injury playing at 80%. Somehow drops 42 spots.

Because Biggins couldn’t stop talking about how he gained 30 pounds and he didn’t like how he physically looked now, instead of remarking about how he is coming off a broke leg and that’s why he gained the weight.
It’s really hard for 18 year olds to lose weight when training with an elite strength and conditioning coach while getting top shelf nutrition.

I’m still in the biggins udub bias bandwagon.
I know he doesn’t determine rankings by himself but the lemmings (and loys) follow so his opinions hold weight.

    The disrespek is real.

The rankings are supposed to be a projection of NFL potential. Obviously he didn't gain bad weight because he's lazy and he's gonna lose the bad weight in college if not before he arrives on campus. Stupid reason to drop him. His NFL potential has not changed at all. But that's Biggins for ya. I'm sure he's pissed he's not going to USC.

What are you talking about? The 247 rankings are based on projecting NFL potential. How do you not know this? 5-star for projected 1st round picks. 4-star for projected NFL draft pick. 3-star for projected UDFA.

    Bull. Shit.

Feel free to produce a link backing that claim up. You won’t. You can’t. It’s about college projection not NFL.

    Also there’s this.

Podcast 6 days ago spends a good 25 minutes on why they do their rankings based on NFL projections. 32 5 stars to mirror the 1st round. Moved Bryce Young to a 5 star because he’s similar to Mayfield and Murray and they went 1st.

Lots of discussion how they look at body types and projections, and they analyze 1st rounders and what they looked like in high school. Such as how most TE are not developed in high school and the high drafted ones have huge gains in college.
When is ESPN going to explain their criteria?

I knew Ballz was right because of Zach Banner. Someone asked Biggins how he was the 11th best OT in his recruiting class because he sucked and Biggins said the rankings are based on NFL potential.

It has to get murky at times though. There are dual threat QB’s that don’t have the arm to be a high pick in the NFL draft, but should still be highly rated.

    They sure nailed that one
He was a 5th round draft pick. He played well as a senior. It wasn’t as bad as it seems.

247 is FS if they grade their recruiting rankings with the results of the NFL draft.

If that's the case, they should factor in the 3-5 years of development these kids get at each school once they commit. Cam Williams with 3-4 years of Socha and Lake? He should've been elevated to a 5* when he committed.

You can bump this when he's taken in the first round.
