A few interesting tidbits from Shipley's commitment article from his hometown paper.

"The area around Eugene, they don’t have their NFL team. Their NFL team is Oregon," he noted. "Everybody in Eugene just bleeds that green and yellow. It’s a great, great vibe to that city. You’re like a celebrity there if you play football at Oregon. I actually like a little town like that, so it’s a great fit for me.”

Coaches at Oregon are expecting Shipley to play defensive end and told him that he'll have an opportunity to start as a true freshman. Playing early was important to Shipley, so even if he doesn’t start during that first year, that the coaches envision that as a possibility carried some weight with Shipley, he said.

I'm confused, I thought it was the UW coaches who shamelessly promised playing time in order to get recruits to sign

There was no promise. There is an opportunity for sure.

A depth chart is pretty easy to figure out. There is definitely early playing time available in 2020.

I haven’t watched the video so he could be good ... who knows

But the vibe I get looking at his pictures and interviews is that he’s a dude bruh type that fits the Sark, Cristoballz, etc side of the world.

Best of luck to him but he’s probably a JAG on the UW depth chart and figured that out

    TL, DR: WDWHA

You have to be kidding. Outside of the program’s prestige and location, it’s the biggest draw for a program.

Coaches are a much bigger draw than depth chart

    How about development?

Croots know what schools are pushing out draft picks.

Over the very recent recruiting cycles are we hearing this consistently from our targets ... and from industry people.

It's paying off because croots know that a uw offer really means and represents something.

YOU have to be kidding. You think Kayvon Thibodeaux worries about depth charts? Fuck no. He just assumes he's gonna start because he always has. Jake Shipley types look at depth charts. That's the difference between a quality recruit and a JAG.

You do realize Oregon is set up to have a big NFL draft class, right?

As much as you shit on player development at Oregon, two players on the edge were just drafted into the NFL. Also, if you didn’t see big leaps in development by Carlberg, Baker and Faoliu, we just aren’t going to agree on the topic.

Big Joe can develop and has a history of it.

His opening results were certainly not flashy. I am not sure well below is accurate.

Well, we'll see ... glad you have confidence in your program ... You would not be a fan if you weren't.

But hang on a minute, can I borrow your back to the Future machine? Don't be counting your chickens and all that shit ... Your not SAC level logically ...

What do you mean by big? Be specific. How many 1st round picks? 2nd round?

We've been hearing about Oregon's NFL draft prospects for years but they haven't had a 1st or second round draft pick since 2016.

When they went 0-fer in 2017 there were some very specific predictions made by a certain Duck fan regarding Royce Freeman and Darren Carrington. Those didn't turn out too well.
Royce was drafted and Darren was a graduate transfer to Utah and a character risk after being kicked out.

I don’t know of any Duck fans thinking the last three classes had any sort of NFL talent.
