Alright you assholes, you know what happens in April?

Spring football game? @Gladstone Returns? Game of Thrones final season starts?

    WRONG!

...well, actually technically you’re right if you answered any of those things, but I’m talking about @Doog_de_Jour’s annual viewing of the greatest PBS documentary series of all time:

Yup, to coincide with the Battle of Fort Sumter (April 12-14th) I pop a little popcorn, and sit back, and get all giddy as Ashokan Farewell starts to play.

Since I know there’s a few fellow history noyds on the bored, I wanted to see if anyone cares to do a little watch along with me (note: not at my actual house...except for @Swaye of course, who will be perched in his usual tree outside with binoculars looking into my living room). What I’ll do if there’s enough interest is set up an OFFICIAL game day viewing thread for each episode (maybe one per week?) and we can all bitch about George B. McClellan, debate military tactics, etc.

    Thoughts?

    #OffSeasonBestSeason

Can I yell my thoughts to you from the tree and you just type them for me?

I just finished it for like the 10th time. Lincoln and Grant were two of the top 5 Americans that ever lived.

Lincoln was a piece of shit
Is this an attempt at whooshing me @MikeDamone ?

Nope. Fucker has continued during the last week to make a fool of himself and to mortify and shame the intelligent people of this great nation. His speeches have demonstrated the fact that although originally a Herculean rail splitter and more lately a whimsical story teller and side splitter, he is no more capable of becoming a statesman, nay, even a moderate one, than the braying ass can become a noble lion. People now marvel how it came to pass that Mr. Lincoln should have been selected as the representative man of any party. His weak, wishy-washy, namby-pamby efforts, imbecile in matter, disgusting in manner, have made us the laughing stock of the whole world. The European powers will despise us because we have no better material out of which to make a President. The truth is, Lincoln is only a moderate lawyer and in the larger cities of the Union could pass for no more than a facetious pettifogger. Take him from his vocation and he loses even these small characteristics and indulges in simple twaddle which would disgrace a well bred school boy.
    Well that seems harsh @MikeDamone.

Can you expand on this opinion? I’d like to hear more.

I would too. My high school history teacher was the only other person I’ve ever heard speak ill of Abe. Lincoln did things like suspending Habeas Corpus, etc., but I hardly think that wipes out everything he did while in office.

Knowing what I know of @MikeDamone i think the first income tax in our? History might be the culprit.

So then he must really hate Woodrow Wilson for bringing it back:

Fun fact. And it was only levied on the high income earners.

Income Tax: The Revenue Act of 1861 levied a 3% flat rate income tax on those with an annual income at or exceeding $800. In 1861, only 3% of the population earned more than $800 per year; as such, the tax enjoyed relatively widespread support among legislators.
