Here's what I wrote after watching his film and before the Puka thread got AIDS:longduckdong said:He dances on way to endzone.

Love himI finally watched his senior film too because for the first time I actually think we might get him (kiss of death). At first I wanted to comp him to Dante because of similar build/skin tone but that was a lazy comp. It took me a couple minutes into it to find the right comp but once I got there it was all I could see.
He reminds me of Golden Tate. Similar combination of elusiveness and strength with the ball in his hands to elude and bounce off tacklers, and similar bounce period. He gets up, catches the ball very naturally (maybe more naturally than Tate?), and has a desire to high point it.
The most impressive thing is how he explodes off the ground though. He doesn't just get up he gets up quickly. He's the kid who drives you crazy playing basketball because he's not only above you going for the boreds all nights, but he's back at his vert above you before you even jumped again when the ball catches the rim an extra time and you both went up too early the first time.
Explosive leaper, really elusive and tough is a hell of a combination. I know I'm the last one on the bandwagon because I didn't want to take another non elite receiver in this class but damn, he just might be elite. I bet he can return the hell out of a punt too. Golden Tate Barry Sanders 2.0.
Would rank as the best receiver we've brought it in the Pete era for me.
But now that I love him he's definitely not coming here. -

I haven't heard it mention, so I thought I would address the elephant in the room. He seems like a smart kid, so I'm wandering how his transition to the states has been as far as communication goes? Are we doing anything different like special playbooks or relying on signals more when he's in the game? I thought I saw him point to his qb a couple of times and defenses might catch on if he's pointing to who he's going to throw the ball to. The only time I've been out of the country is when I was shipped to Nam and I was as confused as a yankee learning to square dance.

After watching his film today I think he is elite at high-pointing the ball and that stands out most on his tape. It looks like he is plenty fast, but not a burner and shifty, but more of a one move and go type of WR. I don't know if I see the Golden Tate comparison because their frames are pretty different and the way they attack defenders after catching is fairly different too. I see some Stegon Diggs in his game.
Stefon Diggs (at NFL combine): 6'0", 195 lbs, 4.46 forty, 35 inch vert, 4.32 shuttle.
Puka: 6'.5", 196 lbs, 4.57 forty, 35.8 inch vert, 4.36 shuttle.
Diggs is known as one of the best tight-window WRs in the league and is pretty good at high pointing the ball for a 6'0" WR. He has a step on Puka in terms of quickness, but once Socha gets ahold of him watch out.
Dante Pettis is honestly a pretty good comparison too, but that is a little boring. Both have a similar height, weight, and look similar after the catch. Pettis had a 41" vert at the UW combine. He's probably better at high pointing than we even know since Browning was throwing to him. -
The way he high points the ball just keeps reminding me of Jerome Pathon. JP's ability to leap, and make hard catches look routine was the reason "experts" thought Brock Huard was a decent QB in 1996. Kinda like the speed and separation of John Ross making "experts" think Brownshorts was a decent QB in 2016.

The Tate comp is because he's both elusive and physical after the catch in addition to being the leaper who goes up and gets balls in the air despite not being especially tall.dawgs206 said:After watching his film today I think he is elite at high-pointing the ball and that stands out most on his tape. He's definitely not as thick as Tate. -
Makes sense. I don't think Puka is quite as physical, but I've only watched a few highlights. Tate can bounce off players better than most, but his compact size likely helps a bit with that.HillsboroDuck said:

Tbf, while Diggs has a similar build and quickness to Puka, and Puka has the potential to be an elite route runner like Diggs down the line, the main reason Diggs is elite at high-pointing and making catches in traffic in the league is because he has hands the size of frying pans.dawgs206 said:After watching his film today I think he is elite at high-pointing the ball and that stands out most on his tape.
