In 1986 Reagan agreed to some "common sense" immigration reform based on assurances from the dem and republican Congressional leadership that the border would be closed. That was one of the Dazzler's favorite lines. Reagan supported tax increases therefore he wouldn't be welcome in today's GOP. That was another one of the Dazzler's favorite claims. But when you asked him if he would be willing to return to the Federal tax rates that existed when Reagan left office he declined because it would cut Federal income tax rates. Reagan was such a HUGE tax increaser according to the Dazzler that the Dazzler didn't want the rates that existed when Reagan left office.46XiJCAB said:

The big tax increase under Reagan was the social security and medicare tax increase. At some point, if the Congress was going to keep increasing retirement benefits you have to pay for it. Since there was not going to be any benefit reduction, the only answer is tax increases to pay for it. So, employees and employers got what they wanted. Trump imposed tariffs on the chicoms to start to punish them for unfair trade. Some of that cost went to increase the cost of imported chicom goods. Reagan wasn't a free sh*tter. The Republican establishment hated Reagan then and they would hate him today, just like they hate Trump. Reagan was loved by the base and he was right in the middle of the base back in the 1980s and would be right in the middle of the base today.SFGbob said:
