Just because you own a gun and a trauma kit doesn't mean you know how to use them! The handgun is THE most difficult firearm to master, It takes training, time, practice and maintenance. So do the rest. Rifle is easiest, shotgun next and handgun the most difficult.

I’m on team #riotgun for home defense. All you need to do is flip the safety and point and shoot in a general direction and re chamber and rinse and repeat.

Probably. Which is why a scatter gun suits me.

What ammunition are you using? What size are the patterns at various distances? Any training on running it and keeping it fed?

The theory in the public mind is that it throws a very large pattern. That's not true at household distances at all. How the gun is manufactured and choke makes a lot of difference as well as does ammunition. One needs to aim a shotgun. Some "riot guns" will shoot very small patterns. How about 00 buck make a nearly ragged hole at 25 yards small? General direction may get you killed or in jail as well as losing everything you own.

    Get some training.

The 12 gauge riot gun is easily accessible in the bedroom. If I hear someone in the house that shouldn’t be there. I grab it, yell Who the fuck are you. And if they don’t belong on visual, I would flip the safety and start unloading.

I truly hope that it won’t happen. But if it does, I’m pretty proficient at unloading all five. The first two are birdshot, the next 2 are buck and the last one is a slug. RIP my shoulder should it get to that last one.

I can shoot skeet with it, so there’s that.

Test and verify especially if anyone in the house is downrange. Drywall isn't very bullet resistant.

What Sledog is saying. My front hallway is the most likely point I would have to engage an intruder. The hallway is about 7’ wide and 30’ long. I have one neighbor across the street who could be affected by any errant rounds. My go to was always my 5.56 AR. But this is a small energetic round and any miss would likely end up in his house, So, after much research, I purchased a 300 blackout AR pistol, subsonic ammo, and a suppressor (which has been in ATF jail for over a year now. FJB). Any errant rounds should be stopped by the front door and porch columns. Any that make it across the street should be stopped by his front door.

Might be better off with the 5.56 and expanding bullets. Just standard 55gr HP or SP. No bonded core. Handguns have more penetration in home structure than the HP/SP rounds. Sub .300 BO I'm guess 220gr? Would have substantial pen in house materials unless it's brick.
