Not sure why anyone is saying Staley screwed up by calling timeout. The Raiders were not sitting on the ball, and, in fact, were lined up in the shotgun for 3rd down prior to the timeout being called. Also, the Raiders would have had to play at KC if it was a tie. Instead, they travel to Cincinatti thanks to the win. The Raiders had all the incentive in the world to win the game and were trying to do so.

That's not what the Raiders said

They told the Chargers they were going to take a knee

    Who was quoted saying that?

I've never seen anyone take a knee out of the shotgun. If the Raiders were thinking about their options they also had timeouts remaining. I can't imagine how the SD timeout made a difference. Seemed pretty clear that they were trying to advance the ball since they didn't take knees on the prior snaps.

As discussed on the broadcast Oakland didn't want to risk a block or a miss giving San Diego the ball with any time

When Stayley called the time out Oakland said fuck it we'll kick

    Whoops!

Although, not sure what would have indicated that to Staley since the Raiders were running actual plays to gain yardage.

I appreciate the San Diego and Oakland usage.

On top of that, the time out didn't do anything for the Chargers. Either call them all if you think you'll stop them and try to score, or don't call them, let time run out and go to the playoffs.

Of course this was also the genius who went for it on 4th down at his own 18 in the 3rd quarter.
