Today at Petersen's presser kicking off Spring football practices, at least one questioner or perhaps it was two were in pursuit of the Big Story swirling around Husky Football since the Super Bowl which apparently has nothing to do with Spring football. The initial headline hunting question was the very first asked following Coach Pete's brief opening statement:

Questioner: " Will Cyler Miles and Damore'ea Stringfellow be with you for Spring practice? "

Petersen: " No, I have nothing new to report on that. We'll just let that play out and see where it goes."

Six questions later, the Big Story looking for a headline was back:

Questioner: " With regard to Cyler Miles and Damore'ea Stringfellow - is there a message you want to send to your team? "

Petersen: " This is a work in process in terms of the culture that we want and how we're going to do things. There's been no talk of those guys. They haven't been here and we've moved on, and we're going. It's not about those guys; it's about the guys that are in the room, that's the message."

Indefinite suspension means the players are not part of nor participants in the program and that won't change until the suspensions are lifted, if ever. The Big Story has been pretty quiet for something of this nature and I'm hoping that if the two Huskies were in any serious trouble, charges would have been filed by now. Maybe it's too soon, but for the kids sake, let's hope the Big Story fades away without a sensational headline. Our football program is moving on and appears to be in able hands.

Sounds like they're gone for good.

    Good.

We don't need the fucking distraction. What we need is 100% of the focus on the team.

I'm pretty sure Petersen and everyone at the press conference knew those questions would be asked. I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Well, of course it should be no surprise. The big deal for me was Petersen's response which I believe is why only two questions were asked.

I skimmed over your post too quickly. My bad, Tailgater.

Okay..... It might be wishful thinking, but I sense a little different attitude in the media and that could be because Petersen has impressed them as the no nonsense, but always respectful head football coach that he is. The Seattle media may just be feeling him out, but I don't think they're going to find any easy doors to walk through nor buttons to push like they maybe had with the other guy. What has kind of impressed me is that Petersen doesn't appear to have changed his process with the media even a little bit with his move from Boise to the big city. He's the same always in control, cool, confident program manager with a likeable personality that I watched for years here in Boise. He can be especially firm in responding to media questions of a personal nature about the kids in his program and if they ask him to praise his players, Petersen can provide that also.

Here's what I'm excited about. 50/50 for Williams and Mercer Island with 1st team. JL is A LOT better than people give him credit for. He's going to win the job, and when he does it won't matter if braid boy comes back or not. Lindy (his mariners nickname) will start. It's Stringfellow I'm worried about. He's Keyshawn Johnson. I haven't made that comparison since the great #3. I just did. If we cut him Sark will gladly take him and he'll kill us for 2 years

Those four players represent a lot of talent, more than UW has had respectively at those positions depth wise in a decade. The three QBs all have unlimited capabilities. Miles was really efficient in mop up last year, despite the weird throwing motion, and Stringfellow looked like an amazing talent -- basically kept UW in the game, along with Miles, against UCLA. Sark's fucktarded coaching being the intangible, as always. I hope UW and Peterman have the discretion to determine the outcome -- and to the benefit of next year's W/L -- and not the Seattle City attorney. Those guys are good and hopefully UW can decide what the depth chart looks like.

I think Petersen may regret the day he introduced the concept of OKGs to the football illiterate Puget Sound media not to mention a couple dozen doogs and their kennel masters on the Internet. For them, OKG must be code for the obscure recruits only Mountain West coaches can covet and develop into NFL draftees. Not a very hip way to recruit for west coast sophisticates counting stars and keeping score.
