The true end of NCAA sports

BendintheriverBendintheriver Member Posts: 6,178 Standard Supporter
If I was to place blame, there wouldn't be enough room on a page to name all the culprits. The NCAA is mostly responsible. The University's themselves are partly to blame. Parents who believe their son is going to buy them a luxury condo and a big raised Escalade when he for certain will go pro are a huge part of the problem. The end is in sight as it is but the death knell, if put into law, is this bill by the fucking communist B Sanders. You unionize college sports, in particular Football, and continue with the fallacy that the education you are getting for free is not worth anything, it will certainly be the end of it all.

Fuck the shitty run NCAA for ever letting sleezy politicians, especially rat politicians, get involved in college sports. I am somewhat happy that for the first 2/3 of my life I got to experience college athletics that were for the love of sport, the school itself, teammates, a free education, room, board and the adulation of the community. Those days are over.

Your Oregon Teacher Union Ducks! Can't wait. The Chicom Crud has pretty much decimated west coast Athletics.

When I was at the UofO I would say the majority of teachers I spoke with (which was many) hated college athletics and wanted to see it die off. My guess is the number is even higher now.

Upside of “amateurism” breaking down is perhaps you’ll get the NFL to throw $$$ into the college game since it truly is the farm system

The whole “what I’m worth” shit is comical to me

The NIL program is going to bring up UCLA and USC and push all others down. What marketing savvy family of some athlete coming out of HS is not going to see the advantage for NIL in Los Angeles over Eugene or Tempe, Spokane, Seattle, UT, Boulder, etc.

I believe that there will end up being an agreement to a NFL and NBA farm system that will be run on campuses. By that time most of the smaller schools will have already abandoned football so the amount of teams will be a fraction of what we have now.

Pretty sure the NFL would do a cheap minor league like baseball and that blue chip recruit who got all the Bama pussy and money would be riding a school bus to a high school stadium. They don't need the hassle of colleges interfering with their bidness. Sure its great now but nothing lasts forever

When I was in high school as a long haired dope smoking FM listening dirty hippie my friends couldn't believe I gave a shit about football and Husky football. The generation before me that made it great is gone now. Support continues to decline

As for what I am worth you are spot on. You're worth what someone pays you just like your house

At each home game there is some Kabuki theater with three or so professors or administrators all decked out in new gear being introduced to the audience and then some waves from the faculty/administrative people. Most of them hate college athletics, but they know how much the university is making off sports which historically kept tens of thousands of relatively well off normal alumni connected with the school so they pull a John China and pretend for a few hours. Given that it is been decades in which it is almost impossible for a "centrist" to get hired at a major university, let alone a conservative it won't be long before it will be club sports and flag football.

I’m ok with killing it all. It hasn’t been anywhere near what is was for at least 10-15 years. Game day at husky stadium is an absolute disaster. The stadium sucks too. Not nearly as loud. Terrible sight lines. It’s terrible. Oregon is like going to a WWE match. It’s sucks.

Does that mean tuition rates will increase even more now, because universities will not have football revenue to offset deficits in university budgets?

Yes, but they’ll save money by doing away with standardized testing.

The "savings" on that have already started here in California.

University of California Will End Use of SAT and ACT in Admissions

Too many of the wrong kind of "minorities" where doing well on those tests and the right kind of minorities were doing shitty on those tests, so instead of trying to help the people doing poorly improve their test scores we just get rid of the tests.

Can we keep the SEC and ACC?

They will both be in the Greater Idaho Association of Universities.
