Dawson Park - Nice park for drug dealing and use and gang shootouts. A little dicey for kids and families. Would be nice if republicans ran hard as the anti-crime party although that smacks of low character.

Parents plead for change after shooting leaves 80+ shell casings at park near N Portland preschoolResidents in neighborhoods such as Eliot and Boise continue to insist not enough is being done to protect those communities. By Dylan Scott and Julia Lopez
PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - While the Portland Police Bureau continues to insist gun violence across the city is declining, residents in neighborhoods such as Eliot and Boise continue to insist not enough is being done to protect those communities.
On Monday, PPB along with Mayor Ted Wheeler and other city officials, held a press conference downtown to discuss the current patrol plan in those areas, specifically historic Dawson Park.
“Using additional resources, to focus on specific parts of town that have been experiencing some difficulties,” Chief of Police, Bob Day said.
The increase in police presence comes at a time when local law enforcement is working to create better ties in communities of color, finding a balance between the need for protection and not over-policing.
Residents in neighborhoods such as Eliot and Boise continue to insist not enough is being done to protect those communities.
“We’re honoring that history and legacy and making sure we’re providing equitable and fair treatment; and assessment in that park,” Day said.
Community members have called on city leaders to protect the Portland staple, which has already been the site of four shootings in 2024, on pace to be the most in five years.
Friday’s incident left two injured and saw more than 80 gun casings and five high-powered weapons recovered, a frightening increase says those working these types of crimes.
“We’re seeing an increase in those cases which is a shock to the conscious but we’re doing our part to mitigate that with what we have,” PPB Sargeant, Israel Hill said.
The shooting comes at a time when several residents and businesses, including the nearby Montessori School, have reached out to the city, demanding large changes be made to ensure long-term safety.

People are stupid. Those are FN FAL rifles. May or may not be capable of full auto but full auto wouldn't have been effective at that range. One of the best 7.62X5MM battle rifles ever made. Adopted by 90 countries. That's .308 Winchester in USA civilian world.
