One of the many problems with wind and solar energy is that they are both terrible for the environment. Wind turbines, in particular, last for only a short time–20 years, or sometimes only 15–and present major disposal issues when their useful lives are over. This video shows what a blight on the landscape an abandoned wind farm can be. Expect to see many more such desolate landscapes if wind power spreads:

The "generally" are. But lots of these renewable companies have gone broke. Still breaking down tons of steel from a 400 megawatt wind farm in the middle of Buttphuck eastern Wyoming and then shipping it out for recycling is expensive. The federal production tax credit last for ten years and so even if it would last 25 years, they are tearing down 11 year old turbines and replacing them so they get "new" production tax credits for another 10 years. The credits are so valuable that on a sunny windy day, they let the wind turbines and solar farms produce to get the credit and then sell the overproduction in the afternoon to utilities for a negative price. So, if the credit is worth $24 a megawatt hour, the wind farm will sell that megawatt hour on the spot market for say a negative $15 dollars a megawatt hour. Utilities then ramp down their coal and gas turbines and get paid to "buy" government subsidized cheese. That is how phucked up the US energy market is. All based on government intervention in what should be a free market.

Many people have argued that wind turbine blades may be toxic because of the materials used to make them. There is no problem with the fiberglass, but with the composite materials added to make the wind turbine blades. These composite materials often contain toxic plastics that are hazardous to the environment. Some of these plastics have Bisphenol A, a very hazardous chemical. In fact, in some parts of the world, plastics containing Bisphenol A have been banned from being used.
