Maybe if they could hold a chisel straight...

    "Generation Fucked."

Who among this group will ever know how to root a drainpipe, clean a gutter, patch drywall or sharpen a lawnmower blade?

Nobody. They'll have to pay somebody else to do all that while bitching about the day job they're all miserable with.

And why, my feminized modern man, do you think your wife cheated on you with the landscaper? Go figure.

Carpentry is hard with a mask on.

Its ironic that a group in favor of extinction care about their health

Do the planet a favor and die

If these are the revolutionaries, then the revolution forthcoming will be over in minutes.

When the revolutionaries themselves can't even get excited and show some energy, they should probably concede before the fight.

know how to do all of those things, lazy enough to pay someone else to do all of those things. I amaze my wife from time to time by installing a new garbage disposal or fixing the dishwasher but most of the time I prefer to pay someone else and avoid the hassle. My diesel mechanic father is now rolling over in his grave.

My day job pays the bills, but my biggest ROI is home improvement, financially and mentally. My daughter recently asked me "How do you know how to do all that stuff?"

When I grew up, nobody took their bike to a shop and paid $100+ for a "tune-up." You saw what was broken or bent, went and got a new one, and fixed it yourself.

I almost shit my pants when some fellow grad students "had to go pick up their bikes at the shop" before we rode. Who does that? Not my people.

I'm gonna drop my road bike off this weekend for the "deluxe tune up" package. Only $125.00 and they do a full clean of every nook and cranny. Hell of a deal.

I rebuilt two decks and built two more at our Seattle house. And finished the basement for a man cave. And I'm management

Now I call the property manager and supervise. My strength.

When we sold the couple that bought it said the yard and decks closed the deal

Row peter puffers don't have "soft" hands. I can assure you of this.

Yeah, all the popular road routes have plenty of folks out. I'm a Skyliners Road fan due to wide, wide shoulders and limited traffic. Bikes and cars just don't mix. Never have, never will.

I think I found my kitchen remodel GC. But my wife will probably make us go way over budget.

I'll be sanding an re-staining the deck myself. Cedar seems to last longer in the desert so I got that going for me. I fucking hate Trex.

I'm not sure why I do so much of my own work. My day job hourly rate would mandate otherwise, but the peace of mind I get by knowing what needs to be done and having it done right is worth the sometimes extra hours and effort.

When we first bought our house, I was way too busy to do shit, so I'd hire plumbers & contractors, but they always cut corners or fucked shit up and the problem always came back. Somewhere along the way, I turned off the TV and just started moonlighting and weekending, and it made all the difference.

A friend of mine recently paid over 20k for a standard, down-to-the-studs bathroom remodel. I remodeled my master bath myself - without pulling the tub - for under 4k. It's hard for me to fathom paying over 10k for a standard bath remodel, unless everything is rolled Italian Marble or some shit, but people pay twice that for a in-and-out in a week job with basic Home Depot materials. Contractors are making out like bandits. I should tell my kids to drop out of college and buy some tool bags if they want a good, debt-free life.

The latest HGTV show is No Demo Reno with a sneaky hot red head. Her thing is showing home owners you don't have to tear down load bearing walls and incur massive expense to redo your kitchen or bath. Pretty interesting. GCs take advantage of all these reno shows I reckon and talk folks into lighting money on fire

Interesting. I always scored super high on "spatial reasoning" tests. Same with my son. I've always been able to see ideas in 3d with my mind's eye and I'm surprised how so few people are able to do that. I can look at a space and see it's possibilities with ease, then sit down and draw it out, if need be, and it always turns out great.

Contractors, IMO, want to replicate and impose whatever they just did on the last job or whatever is hot in the magazines or the lumberyard right then. Many have a hard time understanding what I see or want, and can't break away from their preconceptions. Good ones always listen and come around, and they tend to have good spatial reasoning, too, and are thus more open-minded and easier to work with, in my experience.

I look at my son, doing well in school like I did, but I also look at my friend who's an electrician that never went to college, makes a killing during windstorms, owns his own boat, a gun safe full of rifles and pistols, drives a 2 year old Dodge Diesel truck and always has a beer-filled fridge, and I wonder if I should push my son into the trades or not.

I was looking for a bike tube and the mom and pop one by 7 11 was closed on Sunday bloody Sunday. So I stopped by the yuppie one on the hill. You can spend like $700 on a complete tune up or some shit. I spent $240 on my bike at Target....
