Got to interview him for my 8th grade video class when he came for a school assembly. Got his autograph on my gray UW t shirt (also wore purple UW shorts to school that day).theknowledge said:Mark Sanford anyone?!?!
Then I got bit by a dog walking home from school that day and Sanford flamed out, declared too early and his autograph became worthless.

Had Sanford stayed I’d bet Bender would have gone to three straight NCAAs. 97,98 and 99. He was good.

I might be off a year. I can’t remember. He would at least have made the 98 team even better.

I interviewed him in 95 at the end of his freshman year. He played two more seasons then declared.
