My dad lives in Carson, and we go down every other year and rent a house on the lake pretty close to that very town. (Really amazing lake if you haven't been.) This article is a little sensationalist, as South Lake Tahoe is weird even when there isn't a pandemic. The article isn't kidding about giant casinos being built on the Nevada side a single lane of of a road from the state border. Crossing the street (and therefore an invisible line between states) might as well be like stepping through one of those stupid, poorly explained portals in Stargate.
Last time I was there, it's noon, so beer thirty. There's a brewery with an outdoor bar, and I want to try their stuff. I asked if they had to-go cups, and the bartender pointed to just across the street and said, "I would if I were standing right over there." Didn't want to make the whole family wait while I got drunk at noon, so had to pass.
An awful lot of money on the north side of the lake, Incline Village. Estates that cover city blocks, with multiple manned gates. Like the Ferrari Club is in town every time I've been there.
