A major difference is that the BLM riots started more or less spontaneously, first in Minneapolis when the rioters burned down a police station. If they'd do their fucking job as journalists and report it straight down the middle or perhaps investigate just a few things on occasion, 'normal' people wouldn't be so outraged. You spend an entire summer ignoring the burning of America and then go into outrage/inciting riot mode for last Wednesday - like we say, fuck off.
These rioters certainly leaned left, and Antifa is certainly a far left organization, but that is different than a sitting president and organizers more or less collaborating on an attack of the legislative branch of government, which also happens to be a very sensitive national security site.
Also, images of those BLM riots were beamed across the nation daily. I watched most of those clips. As a consequence national support for BLM decreased markedly.
But you are right that too many liberals and left-wingers condoned the violence. National politicians did not, however.
Also, keep in mind that many, many millions of Americans marched peacefully in BLM protests. Those were largest protests in American history.
Peaceful Trump rallies are fine, not my cup of tea, but they're fine. Violent insurrectionary acts on behalf of Trump and his mythology are not fine. Just as peaceful BLM rallies are fine, but not violent BLM riots. -
