Welcome to the Hardcore Husky Forums. Folks who are well-known in Cyberland and not that dumb.
Hops coaching is shit; his recruiting is shit. What a brilliant move selling his home and packing up the U-Haul. All ready to head East as soon as that call comes.

With no more Romar recruits on the UW MBB roster we are now seeing what a UW basketball program looks like led by Mike Hopkins recruiting his own players to play in his system- horrible, terrible. Mike Hopkins lack of roster management experience has been exposed ever since he lost Quade Green last season and didn't have a viable option as a back up point guard to run the team in Green's absence, an absence that Mike Hopkins was well aware of happening weeks in advance. Yet Mike Hopkins did next to nothing in order to prepare anyone to take over for Quade Green except to burn Marcus Tsohonis' redshirt season and Marcus is a combo guard not a point guard.
Local and National HS recruits seemingly do not want to play for Mike Hopkins at the UW. Mike Hopkins is even striking out on UW legacy recruits like Paolo Banchero and Shane Nowell. From 2020 to 2021 Mike Hopkins has only signed one of his targeted HS recruits (Jackson Grant- Olympia HS 2021). Mike Hopkins had a zero HS recruiting class for 2020 and a one HS recruit recruiting class for 2021. He can not sustain the UW's basketball program with that type of measly HS recruiting while over relying on college transfers to fill out his roster.
The UW currently has eleven scholarship players on their roster out of a NCAA scholarship limit of thirteen. With both Hameir Wright and Quade Green poised to leave after the season the UW looks to have 10 scholarship players next season with Jackson Grant as the only HS recruit coming into the program. That will leave three open scholarships that Mike Hopkins has to fill most likely by way of college transfers. He could potentially signed some late period HS recruits in the Spring time for 2021 but would they be good enough to really merit a UW scholarship?
Mike Hopkins, a career Syracuse assistant coach, came from a dirty Syracuse basketball program that was hit with NCAA sanctions after an NCAA investigation into the program concerning the seasons from 2000-2012. A program in which in his own words he was very involved with the players both on and off of the court but feigned ignorance to NCAA investigators concerning the violations.
Is that the type of individual that the UW should have hired to build a basketball program and lead impressionable young men?
Syracuse was punished for three things:
1. Improper Benefits
2. Academic Misconduct
3. A Failure To Enforce The School's Drug Policy
The Syracuse basketball program lost 12 scholarships over four years. Boeheim was given a nine-game suspension and docked 108 career victories. The men's basketball was put on probation for five years. The number of permissible off-campus recruiters was trimmed from four to two starting June 1/2015 and ending May 31/2017. Also, Syracuse had to pay a million dollar plus fine.
And to think some wealthy & very influential Tyee Club members wanted to make the UW basketball program into Syracuse West by hiring a 22 year career assistant coach from that dirty basketball program...it's time to clean up this Tyee Club sponsored mess at Montlake and see if BRoy wants to lead the UW men's basketball program ASAP!!!
