Japan is a country we've nurtured but also have been holding its baser instincts in check with our power since the end of WWII. A pitbull on a leash only respects the leash holder as long as they're strong. If the animal detects weakness, it will rebel and reassert its power. I'm not saying Japan will become a threat to us again anytime soon. But their current leader, Shinzo Abe, is a fan of Japan rearming itself. He has ties to the WWII war criminal government and pays respects at the shrine of Tojo and others. A few rats in his government have been quoted as having said they should pursue a policy like Hitler did in Germany when he secretly rearmed in violation of the Treaty of Versailles.

The US under Obama has become a floundering, weak fish. Because Obama is a lying, backstabbing, weak, double-speaking, incompetent, ghey ass buffoon, that's how other countries see America too. Why would a country like Japan not rearm itself when its surrounded by countries like North Korea and China? Should they expect a spineless POS like Obama to do or even say anything if they're threatened by North Korea? Japan is hated in that part of the world, and for good reason. They are an intelligent people (and currently peaceful) but when they become warlike, watch out. They're mother fucking samurais and as a nation, can turn off any morals they have when it's convenient to do so. They live on an overpopulated island with few natural resources. It is logical that they will attempt what they tried before WWII broke out again someday.

The rearming of Japan would not good for anyone. It would be the clearest sign of a total collapse of US influence in the world. We're approaching the Soviet Union in 1989 territory.
