NORTH KOREA could launch nuclear missile tests as a warning to Joe Biden, according to experts. Last year, North Korea labelled Mr Biden a “rabid dog” who “must be beaten to death with a stick”.
Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) previously said Mr Biden “reeled off a string of rubbish against the dignity” of the North’s supreme leadership.
The state-run news agency added that Mr Biden’s acts deserve “merciless punishment”.
Mount Paektu, a volcano straddling North Korea’s border with China, is sacred to many Koreans, both in the north and south, who revere it as the mythical birthplace of a unified and independent peninsula.
Kim Jong Un has often visited the sacred mountain around the time of major developments in North Korea, including missile launches.
Kim’s grandfather, Kim Il Sung, based his anti-Japanese military campaign on the mountain. Kim Jong Un’s father, Kim Jong Il, was born at Mount Paektu.
And the handsome white horse Kim rode evoked Korean legends of steeds with super-powers, like the winged horse Chollima, and another named Mallima, that was blessed with great speed and stamina to run for thousands of miles.
