Nirvana and Pearl Jam thought Young rocked because he did with Cray Horse
And he did acoustic stuff
And country -
Dr. Feelgood - Motley Crue
I know there are many sub genres. I'm saying that folk rock is listened to by fat lesbians on Vashon Island and is shitty music. Should not even be in the same zip code of groups like Motley Crue (and it's not like Crue is some world-beating all-time group).YellowSnow said:
The list of “rock” sub genres is endless. Folk rock and metal are both types of “rock”.BleachedAnusDawg said:I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I would not call Neil Young "rock" music, same goes for Bonnie Raitt and The Cure. Not enough good electric guitar turned up to 11 in any of that. Nirvana album was before anyone had ever heard of them so I kinda think that's cheating - I actually didn't know they had an earlier album than Nevermind but I've never been a fan of them.
This was also a year in which Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, and New Kids on the Block topped the charts, though, so...yeah. -
Freedom - Neil Young

Yeah yeah yeah. Doesn't really move me because I'm not a fan of Nirvana or Pearl Jam, but I know what you're saying. I'm sure Neil Young inspired a lot of bands out there but his sound is like grandpa music to me and I'm pushing 40 years old. I grew up with my Dad as lead singer and guitar in a couple different kick-ass rock bands in the 80's, went to his rehearsals and even got snuck in a couple shows at clubs so my taste buds were influenced by stuff that has no relation to Raitt or Young. This is why Van Halen beats the hell out of all the hippy folk stuff.RaceBannon said:Nirvana and Pearl Jam thought Young rocked because he did with Cray Horse

No, I'm saying that IMO Neil Young sucks and so does Bonnie Raitt. Pretty cool that I can say that and you can tell me that you think some bands I like suck. Interesting concept.chuck said:

Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty
Zeppelin were folk rockers much of the time. Sabbath did folk songs - eg Laguna sunrise. Metallica dabbled in folk based music. I’m not following your argument.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I love Dylan and Neil Young. I love AC DC and Metallica. There’s no mutual exclusivity here. -
Full Moon Fever - Tom PettyOne of my personal favorite Vashon fat lesbian songs.

I mean, it's an instrumental and I would always skip that song on an album. I like Zepellin and would also skip their folk songs.YellowSnow said:One of my personal favorite Vashon fat lesbian songs.

And that’s fine. It’s a matter of taste. All I’m saying is that folk is a integral part of the rich stew which comprises “rock” music.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I understand not liking Neil Young and any argument I make about it is in jest. Thats not what you said though. You said he isn't rock which is just false. Opinions based on falsehoods are stupid.BleachedAnusDawg said:
