Especially that the number is now north of 46 million. Hell, 6 million would be a disaster. But if it saves the life of one Kurd, it's worth it. And we are phu*cking around with masks. Definitely wear a mask once you are homeless. That's how to virtue signal.
"And unless Congress extends extra unemployment benefits beyond July 31,"
July 31? what a coincidence - on the news they said that is the same day Washington state is targeting for the 71000 that filed for but have not received any unemployment benefits yet. At the same time they announced the 4.7 billion in funds is down to 2.8 billion.
Who knew throwing 40 million out of work would be a problem? Experts? Science?
Evictions aren't actually going to happen because every Governor in the US is banning them for the foreseeable future. Inslee will extend WA State's ban again as we close in on the current August 1 date.
Foreclosures, on the other hand, yeah...landlords are fucked.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon's temporary ban on commercial and residential evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic has been extended through Sept. 30.
Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday signed the bill, which lawmakers approved during Oregon’s special session.
Currently, landlords can't evict anyone for not paying rent. The extension gives renters until March 31, 2021 to pay everything back without any late fees or being reported to credit agencies.

It's the confiscation of private property by the state
As I was saying, the eviction ban is designed to punish the people who have two or three rental properties and depend on that income. The gigantic complexes can eat some rent. It’s a fast-track to socialism and if some small-time landlords get fucked over, oh well.
Lot of lawsuits on the horizon and more civil strife
As planned
Was it planned? Or was it just an audible to see how gullible Americans are to think this WuFlu will kill everyone. The last month of social gatherings didn’t count. Those were for George Kirby.
I agree with pretty much everything said in this thread, except I'm surprised by one thing:
Robert Reich is our source?
That's the joke
Gotcha. I'm slow, per usual.
But, is he right? It seems like we're deep enough into the cycle now that the foreclosures and evictions should be happening where they haven't been made illegal.
I've been worried about this. Like you say, 40 million+ out of work. What could go wrong?

Wait. NVM. I forgot. We'll just all shout "Reset!!" Yeah, that's what we'll do. That'll fix everything.

The state ends up owning the property
Not a bug but a feature

You're fucked.
This is Socialism in rapid mode. Small businesses closed, small landlords go bankrupt as huge corporation-owned apartments can eat a loss...
Amazing to see how rapidly this is happening.
