""Those (protesters) are well off base. Jim Owens was extremely good to me." --Dave Dinesh
"(We) should have a Jim Owens Day. I love the guy. I thought he was just as fair as could be."--Ron Preston
Lee Brock, defensive tackle and co-captain of the 1969 team, criticized those who leveled charges at Owens, saying they were more interested in self-promotion than in helping the black community.
Owens might have been rigid, he said, but he was not a racist.
"If he really was, ... he would not have started (Native American quarterback) Sonny Sixkiller," Brock said. "He stayed with Sonny through all of that."
He criticized those who blocked the team bus 34 years ago, saying protesters showed disrespect by failing to consult him, a team leader.

Jim Owens couldn’t carry Jerry Frei’s leather helmet when it comes to 1960s social justice. @HHusky posting the words of Owen’s own Uncle Tom notwithstanding...

Owens should have been fired on the spot for Donnie Moore.
That's what my dad the REAL tuff liberal lawyer said at the time
He didn't have much use for racists like H
Also, he clicked off 220 on Ohio State at the Shoe? Fuck outta here. Forget the race piece for a minute. You don't boot a guy who gives you 2 hundy on the road at Buck unless you catch him with the dog, and even then ....
I didn’t know about the racial tension on those Owens’ teams. Black players boycotting the UCLA game? Grim
Owens’ black players aren’t a monolithic block with just one opinion of him. There was just a wee bit of racial tension in the whole country at the time. I’m sure he made mistakes and he definitely had staff in the program who needed to be shown the door.
They were fairly monolithic in not going to the UCLA game
I'm not surprised at all that you would run cover for racists
There were black players trying to board the team bus who were blocked by the militants. But don’t let the facts distract you.
Props?
Ask them.
You're the self proclaimed arbiter of race along with Biden
Donnie Moore ain’t black.
He’ll be surprised to learn that.
Unless he votes for Biden. It’s so fun getting you all worked up. Not quite as bad as you do when it’s pointed out that Margaret Sanger wanted to diminish the black population via various methods of birth control. What a racist bitch she was, eh?

When you gals putting up Jerry's statue?
He’s white so it won’t happen. Not a racist like Owens though so at least it would make sense.

So you were for racism before you were for racism.

Come on!
Prothro and Owens hated each other.

But Donnie Moore!
Your defense of Owens is completely not surprising
Got it.
Attacks Gundy for his news station
The mixing of leftist ideology with alleged racism concerns is the kind of bullshit we have come to expect
Norm Meleng.
Both shameful figures for different reasons.
Collins (also a sophomore to be) did start the Spring game. Collins was a very good QB, btw.
But I don't think anyone was ever ahead of Sonny after the Varsity-Alumni game of 1970.
Collins was good. But Owens preferred Willis
