I admire your courage Sleddy.Sledog said:Maybe they won't have to defund the police. Many are leaving. All the ones I know will get out as soon as they can. Hiring is flat. Departments offering up to 35k bonus to laterals and large amounts to new hires. They still can't fill the ranks. I come from a law enforcement family. I'm happy I'm out and I never thought I would say that. My father said not to become a cop that it's gone to shit. That was a long time ago and he was right. I knew it was happening and did it anyway. The amount of change I saw in my time was stunning. There is always change but it's the change in perception by the public that is the real problem. This guy nails it pretty well but many here will hate it but I'm putting it up anyway!

Fairly accurate description Lots more besides that though. Had many trainees quit after their first difficult call.

Poor disenfrachised police officers. The public decides to give them a little bit of accountability and they fall apart.Sledog said:

Thankfully it's not all cops that are this fragile, just a few bad apples. -
I would think that most cops would welcome more accountability but there is no denying the job of being a policeman has gotten way more difficult in the last 20 years.dnc said:

The list is thought provoking. But the high pay makes up for it

While you guys are talking shit I'm focused on the "crazy thoughts you can't make stop" benefit. I'd like to know a little more about that one.RaceBannon said:The list is thought provoking. But the high pay makes up for it

Not in Mayberry unless its a car accident but in the city you see some things, Josie.
I'm not speaking from experience. -
Nothing like a guy melting into the carpet to make your night! Kitty was hungry too. Had a few bites but the poor thing hadn't eaten in who know how long. The moving carpet of maggots is always fun. May dead person in a bath Tub for 3 weeks. We named him Stew. You can't get that smell off of you. It sticks with you all day/night and even after a fresh uniform and a shower. Damn stuff must stick in your nose. There have been way too many.RaceBannon said:

Or suicides, homicides etc.
Watching people die far too often.
Traffic accidents? Peoples brains spattered 20 or 30 feet up the wall of a building kind of traffic accidents. Rolling of a kid who was run over by a bus to see if they're alive only to have all his guts fall out? Dead children and children that are victims of crimes will indeed make hardened grown men cry.
Having your friends murdered is zero fucking fun. Having them killed in accidents isn't much batter. I've been to way too many police funerals. Had a few people try and arrange mine.
Showing up to a bar fight with 30+ Vita Vea's and their girls going to town. Fight with those guys some time!
Crazy thoughts? Lot's of crazy thoughts. About many things. But sometimes after an especially dangerous encounter, say a shooting, you can NOT turn your mind off for about a week. you'll see the event over and over every minute of the day and night. If you sleep you'll dream it. It's like a VCR with playing a loop.
Hell anything you can think of a cop with a lot of years on has been there done that most likely.
I never went to a plane crash but people I knew did. I saw pictures of the Cerritos plane crash in training. Holy Mother of God that stuff is BAD too.
We laugh at a lot of stuff. It's not that we're sick but it helps keep you from going crazy.
I still see it, hear it and smell it. But I live with it.

You just replaced the word “Teachers” with “Police Officer” on that list. You can’t fool us.dnc said:

pay for the sherriff deputies here was under 40,000 per year
Why anyone would put their life on the line for that is past me
I looked into the boarder patrol many years ago. THe pay was good but it's dangerous plus it's 95-110 degrees five months a year -
Knew a guy who accepted a job with the local Sheriffs office. 44K a year. He quit in the Academy as he finally had the good sense to realize risking your life all while being hated and vilified by half the population for 44K a year is dumb.Fire_Marshall_Bill said:pay for the sherriff deputies here was under 40,000 per year

Cleaning up after food fights is life changing shit. Plus getting those 3 months off a year is a lonely burden to bear. Sorry, I jest. Teachers do have to deal with a shit ton of bullshit but probably not on the scale Sled just vividly described.dnc said:
