I think some guys are underrating Trufant a bit. He was a shutdown corner that rarely got thrown at. He hits hard, tackles well, has decent size and 4.3 speed. He's doing fine in the NFL and will have a long career. Bolden is a tough guy to deal with and seems to make the defense look bad every time I watch SF.

Peters has a little more reach and ball skills and seems to do better in press coverage. I agree he's a better prospect but not by a ton.

Truant gets burned every time I watch the Falcons. I know he's a rookie, but i never saw him as a great CB. He was mediocre for three years at UW (coaching) and had a good, but not great senior year.

He's a prototypical CB, but something seems missing, and I doubt that changes.

In five years, people will look back at that secondary the same way they'll look back at the Wroten/Ross team: "You guys had those two studs...at the same time...and you still sucked?"

Trufant's senior year was great. I agree he's probably not a shutdown corner in the NFL, but there wasn't much more he could have done as a senior. I like Peters more because he's far superior at the same stage of development and has the swagger that makes him fun to watch, but senior Tru never gets burned for that TD before the half at Stanford. He had an incredible senior year.

He was very good his senior year. He played like shit in the Apple Cup loss, although I may be being hard on him because he did have some injuries and missed the game against Colorado the year before.

I just don't think he is a first round corner, and when I have watched him this year, he hasn't been very good. I must be watching him at the wrong times, because Pro Football Focus (Great NFL site that grades players) rates him as having a very good year at #6 in their rookie of the year.

To be fair to him, Atlanta is 25th in sacks and closer to last place than 20th. That's a lot to ask of a rookie. I don't think he can be a true lockdown corner. More of a good enough number 1.
  • If we are going to bash on Trufant's first three years that's fine but if we are going to bash his senior year then I'm out!

I don't think he literally gave up a TD his senior year.

As for his penalties in the AC, he played like that all year. That is like getting on Sherman for a PI/Holding.

ATL is dogshit this year and their defense has never been good.

Being a rookie DB has to be the toughest transition from college to nfl or it's up there.

I'll think he end up like Marcus, have a solid career but never a shutdown guy like Sherman.

trufant had an outstanding senior year. I remember either the osu or utah game he had double digit tackles, that's almost unheard of for a corner. He was also vital in the stanford game. Peters is probably better though
