Like others have asked and speculated on, I wonder if this strange time will benefit the Dawgs and the in-state studs will realize what they got right here in their backyard, let alone the Troy Franklins and Sommervilles of the world, etc.

“With the recruiting piece, I’ve actually really enjoyed being on the phone, texting, FaceTiming with a lot more recruits, a lot more parents than maybe we would if we were always busy getting ready for practice and doing meetings and those sorts of things,” Lake said. “What I really love in our situation right now for the University of Washington, is these prospects have to do a lot of research now online of what places they want to attend.

“When they start looking up the University of Washington, they’re going to see, ‘Oh wow, this is the No. 10 ranked academic school (by the U.S. News & World Report). Wow, they have the best attendance of anybody out west. Wow, they’ve won two Pac-12 championships in the last four years. Wow, this team has more NFL draft picks than anybody in the Pac-12 in the last seven years. This team has more NFL Combine invites than anybody in the Pac-12.’

“When they start doing all that research on their own and not getting caught up in some of the hype of recruiting and it’s just the facts, I think that’s really going to help out the University of Washington.”

Doog- I really like his comments. He gets what Pete was annoyed with and is saying what many others echo.

Hch- it would be great if fucking marketing was aligned pushing this message through social. If they are on insta or tik tok I’ll never see it... but when guys on Twitter are making their own graphics to echo lakes comments, it’s pretty clear they have head in ass.

Jimmy gets recruiting. But that doesnt mean he will be as good as we think he will be. As UW fans, I think we overstate his recruiting acumen because we know him. Obviously he needs to win to prove he's not just a random assistant who is taking over. I'll be very interested to see how well he closes when it gets into the winter months.

One thing that is often glossed over here, though, is that Pete was a very good recruiter. There was a lot made about him being stuck in the past, stubborn, etc. but parents loved him and the connections he built with the recruits he zoned in on were very strong. I guarantee there will be a couple big names that slip away this year and will say, "I was all UW when Pete was there. He was like family. When he left, my interest turned elsewhere."

Pete’s recruiting style immediately pulled us out of contention for specific recruits. Lakes style, which obviously includes a large part of Pete’s, will be more show and hype.

We had Parents who loved Pete and the kids made the choice to go else where. A number of those IIRC. Bru was the first one that comes to mind.

I hope you’re not right about losing guys because of the change (mainly jT & EE) but I actually see more guys being interested because of Lake. He has Pete’s foundation with his own style.
