The equivalent of 221,000 died in the 1958 Asian flu epidemic. I understand a temporary shutdown to flatten the curve in urban hotspots, particularly in the NYC area. The shutting down of almost all of rural American was just a political strong arm gesture to make idiots like Brown or Inslee feel good and virtue signal. They could give a phuck about the private sector working class. Weeks later, they still don't and never will. But the howling over lost tax revenue will be earth shaking once the bite hits some government workers. You would think if you were on a government pension in Illinois you would have sheltered in place and begged the governor to keep the tax dollars keep rolling in.
