The resulting economic pain still constitutes a short term crisis. Companies like Amazon and MSFT and patting themselves on the back for DOING SOMETHING and continuing to pay some hourly employees. Meanwhile all the vendors they work with down stream- ie hotels, airlines, etc are getting battered. The “abundance of caution “ will cause more pain than the bug itself.
