“Former University of Oregon baseball standout J.J. Altobelli is among those affected by the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant and Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.

According to multiple reports, Altobelli’s father, John Altobelli, the longtime baseball coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., was among the nine on board of the helicopter that crashed Sunday morning in Calabasas, Calif. He was 56.

John Altobelli’s wife, Keri, and daughter Alyssa also perished in the accident. There were no survivors.

Alyssa Altobelli and Gianna Bryant were basketball teammates at the Mamba Academy.

J.J. Altobelli, who was not on board, was an infielder for the Ducks from 2010-13. He was an 18th-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013 and played briefly in their minor-league system. He’s now a scout for the Boston Red Sox.”
