Sark triple backed his way into an Alamo Bowl a few years back and I went, so here is a guide for the DHBs flying south for the winter:
Fly into and visit Austin. If doing an extended trip, hit Austin after the new year for better scenery as the students come back from break. In Austin visit U of Texas campus, the state capitol, El BJ library o.k. but the ranch in Hill Country is way better, and 6th street at night. South Congress neighborhood overrated other than Allen Boots. Since ducks like water, take a swim in warm Barton Springs in Austin's flagship park, Zilker. For food, eat BBQ. Best are Franklin BBQ just east of UT campus (get there early, and wait in line) and J. Mueller (moved since I went, but still getting raving reviews). Line at J. Mueller but less than Franklin. More good BBQ in some of the satellite towns around Austin. Lockhart is the epicenter with Kreutz, Black's, and Smith's. The Salt Lick in Driftwood is pretty cool if you have a large group and bring your own beer.
Texas Hill Country is a worthy side trip. Visit El BJ's ranch, Fredericksburg, and climb Enchanted Rock. Southern Hill Country below Kerrsville is less crowded, more hilly. Garner Park is worth the visit if you like nature shit.
San Antonio is where all the silly team events take place. Sea World, Six Flags, other lame shit for those poor folks who brought along their kids. Riverwalk is great at night and the day leading up to the game. Decent food along Riverwalk, but excellent Tex-Mex and Mexican a few miles away. Food advice from Texans:
San Antonio Tex-Mex The Alamo is a few blocks from the Riverwalk. Visit early morning to avoid the lines. Spoiler alert: everyone dies. Easy walk from Alamodome to Riverwalk area.
