But I thought the sam/buck was not a DL position. I heard we play a 2-4-5. Perhaps the bored could debate this and clarify so we all understand and can get to the bottom of this.
Through 3 games UW has averaged 196 yards rushing at a 4.8 clip. The 26 attempts for just 88 yards (3.4 per carry) against Utah is a massive ding, but Utah has a stingy run defense every year and JonDon wasn't doing any favors with the stubborn runs into the stacked box.
Most importantly, just 1 sack on the season, which was a Morris run out of bounds. So the offensive line that has 3 new starters and 2 starters that switched positions has been quite effective. Morris has had a typically clean pocket most drop backs and the line has played quite well in the run game.
Most of note is the strange blocking scheme of the last few years is gone. Huff has implemented a much more simple blocking scheme, and guys are crushing defenders on pulls, combo blocks, and are getting to the second level consistently.
I dig it.
Edit:
Obviously not just the offensive line. RB have been great at blitz pickup, and it can’t be understated how incredible Morris has been in the pocket. He steps up, moves around, and doesn’t panic and run around and cause a sack. Also, he gets rid of the ball quickly so the line doesn’t have to hold their blocks forever.

While the 1H was a shitshow, it felt like Dylan was getting impatient in the pocket. I hope we roll him out and move the pocket going forward as he’s nails throwing on the run and I think it calmed him down locker-style

Huff has recruited like a maniac the last three years, and this season he's showing he's got the coaching chops too. There is a fuck ton of talented depth on the OL.

OL has been great. Utah is stout up front and stacked the box. We didn’t run the ball well last game, but the blocking was pretty good.
Utah had extra guys down there and our RB’s missed some holes and also tried to bounce shit outside when they should have taken the 3-4 yards. Lake said Utah has been #1 in rush defense 5 years in a row. Simple dives aren’t going to work against them.
I’ve been critical of Huff’s coaching but the OL is good and will continue to get better. I think we have figured it out there. We aren’t all the way there yet, but it seems we are on the path.
We have brought in talent and guys are developing. Everyone looks great besides Watty (he’s decent). 2022 is going to be a great class for Huff. We have multiple lay ups with the in state guys.

Another blocking area to improve on is turning upfield. Several times guards or TEs would trap or pull to kickout the last man on the LS only to find that Utah player would rush upfield effectively taking themselves out of the play. Rather than recognizing that, Otton or others would chase that defender looking to block rather than leaving them and turning upfield. Small nit but that turns something out of nothing on a few of those runs off of LT.
Pass protection has been great so far. Morris’ best skill so far has been his movement in the pocket. He steps up and moves around when needed. Eason would have been sacked more than once. Allowing one sack in 3 games is good shit. It’s a team effort and has been fun to watch.

Yeah, I've been really impressed with his pocket presence. He doesn't get skittish like Eason and Browning did. He moves really well and is great at pulling the trigger when he should. He has all the attributes of a guy who will continue to get better and better.

I’m bullish on Morris despite some bad throws and decisions because of his movement. I posted a few days ago that pocket presence is something QB’s either have or they don’t have. It only gets marginally better. There is an art to it and certain rhythm the good QB’s all have. Morris looks to have it.

There's no game until kickoff.
