https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/10/trump-defenders-have-adopted-a-doctrine-of-infallibility/

Just this week, the same people who insisted that Trump would never collude with a foreign nation for his political interest are now defending collusion with a foreign nation for his political interest. The people who turn crimson with rage when you point out Trump’s decades of corrupt business practices now insist his only interest in the Bidens is his concern about corruption. They say it’s outrageous that Biden’s son sat on the board of a Ukrainian company when Biden was vice president, but they also say it’s fine to have a daughter and son-in-law duo running vast swaths of foreign and domestic policy while also making a fortune from their business interests around the world. Enemies are sinful or decadent when they lie or cheat on their wives, but who are you to judge Comrade Trump?

There’s no halfway defensible ideological, intellectual, or moral standard that Trump doesn’t violate, often routinely. A cult of personality that replies “Trump’s right” or “his enemies are worse” before the question is even asked is the only place to hide.

The most interesting thing about this week in “conservative” media is that once Never Trumper National Review is trying to reclaim its place as a serious publication after three years of whimpering in a corner like a whipped dog. Former Never Trumper Redstate appears to be ready to go down with the ship. The difference is palpable.

Yeah, just lie your ass off like O'Keefed the intellectual.

Can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want a memorial to become a Daddy Campaign Event? That’s a you issue.

    Police canceled the game.

It’s pretty deplorable to politicize a family’s tragedy.

The comparison between Hunter and Ivanka is interesting, but Hunter is a pauper compared to her.

NR is gambling that Trumpism is a passing fad and not a symptom of a disease that is rotting the party from the inside out. Sadly they’ll likely find themselves in the same position as The Weekly Standard. William F Buckley is rolling over in his grave at what has happened to the party.

just reflects the general population. Trump is merely a reflection of that culture. Buckley would be more appalled by the current culture than with Trump. Buckley detested Nelson Rockefeller who was a genuinely nice RINO. Buckley’s choice in the 2016 campaign would most likely have been like mine – Ted Cruz. The choice for the presidential election would have been Trump or the felonious PIPS. Unlike the current cuck crew at NPR – Buckley was a fighter and didn’t suffer fools or insults lightly. He also was a patriotic American and serious anti-communist. Buckley would have plenty of other targets rather than Trump. NPR will never recover from its anyone but Trump stance. That stems from feelings not from reason. You can easily throw away your integrity. Tough to get it back. I love it when leftards pretend that they know what is best for conservatives.

I’d love to see any conservatives worthy of the label emerge. We agree Buckley would suffer from no shortage of targets in 2019.

Cruz would fit the bill. He would clearly be the more fiscally responsible alternative. But then he supported tort reform in Texas. So he would be disqualified, you being a one trick pony guy.
