McDuffie was the best true freshman dB play I have seen since I been watching it. He was so goodNeGgaPlEaSe said:

People expected big things from tryon, Taylor and quite honestly Wellington this year.NeGgaPlEaSe said:
You just started two freshman, who are now experienced. As soon as ASA finishes the offseason of Rhino cum, and gets up to 210 he’s going to destroy some people in the Taylor Rap roll.AtomicDawg said:
One might also say with all those guys on the roster in 2019 they shouldn’t have had the worst pair of lb’s of any major conference. I don’t think they will be as bad as this year but they very well could be the weakest position group and below average again.bananasnblondes said:
Yeah. If we can pencil in Ulofoshio, we need to find ONE guy to stand next to him. We have a stable of four 4* guys in Ngata, Sirmon, Hemuli, and Calvert, plus theres Tafisi who played last year. Having a decent ILB duo next year shouldnt be that tall of an order.RoadDawg55 said:
Don’t know if he’s any good, but Stanford’s defense was terrible. I actually think we will be pretty good at LB next year. Ulofoshio cemented himself as a solid starter (maybe more) and we have a plethora of young LB’s that redshirted. Sirmon sucked for most the year, but he did get better too. Ngata is a wildcard and could possibly be a good player if he gets to play ILB.Bread said:Andrew Pryts (ILB) led stanford in tackles and is looking to grad transfer. Please tell me we have contacted him.
Safety is another area of concern next year too. There is talent there and a track record of developing it though so i think it will be ok but maybe not above average. Maybe Irvin can contribute there.
None were good at the start of the year. Tryon was pretty good by the end of the year and Taylor looked great in the bowl game. Both took time throughout the year to improve though. That can equal losses on the early part of the schedule especially since we play a team with a pulse in the opener. Wellington never improved.
Just saying they are still sophomores. They likely are not going to be anywhere close to the strength of the defense next year and will be exploited vs other positional groups with the ILB’s.

There is danger in believing it carries over. That’s not always the case.AtomicDawg said:

Quentin Richardson looked good tv e last few games of 2010 and sucked again the next year. Tryon looked really good at the end of 2018 and was pretty bad early in the year. Same for Taylor and Wellington tbh. -
Jimmy’s defensive backs have all progressed. We have yet to see people not improve, from Kevin King to ASA

McKinney and Gilchrist suggest it’s not a guarantee.NeGgaPlEaSe said:Jimmy’s defensive backs have all progressed. We have yet to see people not improve, from Kevin King to ASA
Strong likelihood though.

Will be interesting to see how Lakes promotion affects the DB development

SMFJIV struggled as a true freshman. Remember when EWU put up 52 against us?
Cam Williams will improve significantly between his freshman and sophomore years -
I wouldn’t make those guys as anything but busts. Some guys will always busy regardless of coaching. The guys that play get better.dnc said:

Jones was up and down his freshman year. He didn’t play that much against EWU and the TD he gave up he was right there. He was burned badly against Arizona for a long TD and was terrible against UCLA as well.whatshouldicareabout said:SMFJIV struggled as a true freshman. Remember when EWU put up 52 against us?

Budda was horrible against Hawaii and Eastern. The Hawaii slot WR was killing Budda. Luckily the Hawaii QB missed him a few times. A ball bounced off Buddha’s face mask against Eastern. Buddha’s lack of hands always drove me nutty, even when he was great at everything else. They scored a TD the next play. -
Yeah I would actually say Cam had a more successful true freshman campaign than Sydney did. He took a ton of lumps. I cant remember how good Budda was as a freshman but I'm sure he had some roughmplays toowhatshouldicareabout said:SMFJIV struggled as a true freshman. Remember when EWU put up 52 against us?
